Win $500 to Attend a Writers' Conference
Each year, AWP offers two WC&C scholarships of $500 each to emerging writers of fiction and poetry who wish to attend a writers’ conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. The scholarships are applied to fees for winners who attend one of the member programs in AWP’s Directory of Conferences & Centers. Winners and four finalists will also receive a one-year individual membership in AWP. This will be the first year that we will be accepting submissions electronically through Submittable. Submissions are being accepted now through March 30, 2014. This year's judge is Rigoberto González. |
Get Your Manuscripts Ready for the 2014 AWP Award Series

Our Annual Report on the Academic Job Market
Creative writers still have expanding job options, despite slow job market recovery, increasing demands on part-time academic labor with little or no benefits, and confusion over how universities will implement the Affordable Care Act. Read the good news and bad news in our annual report on the state of the academic job market. |
VOTE NOW & Help AWP Become a Stronger Association
Please vote now and help AWP become a stronger, more modern, and more resourceful association. AWP must hold another vote on governance reform since we were unable to achieve a quorum this past academic year. Our bylaws and articles of incorporation have many components that date back to 1967, and we need to adopt a new structure to improve our service to a growing and more diverse membership. We are also holding an election for new representatives to our Board of Directors. Please vote to elect to the board Ira Sukrungruang as Representative of Programs in the Southeast, and Sheryl St. Germain as Representative of Programs in the Northeast. Each of the two candidates is running unopposed. |
New #AWP14 Hotels Available
Our official conference hotel, the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, is sold out, but rooms are now available at new overflow hotels, the Fairmont Olympic and Red Lion. Both are a short walk from the Washington State Convention Center. Visit our hotel and travel page for more information and updates. |
