It's that time of year! "Santa" is getting ready for his long voyage across an intricately rendered WebGL globe (www.noradsanta.org) and we at The Khronos Group want to say hello and seasons greetings to our friends and extended family. Khronos has had another great year and our technology elves are already working hard on all kinds of new magic for 2014.  Well keep in touch.

API News & Updates
Two significant API announcements have taken place since the last Newsletter:

OpenVX 1.0 for Computer Vision Acceleration
At SIGGRAPH ASIA Khronos announced the ratification and public release of the OpenVX 1.0 provisional specification, an open, royalty-free standard for cross platform acceleration of computer vision applications and libraries. OpenVX enables performance and power optimized computer vision algorithms for use cases such as face, body and gesture tracking, smart video surveillance, automatic driver assistance systems, object and scene reconstruction, augmented reality, visual inspection, robotics and more.

Khronos Finalizes OpenCL 2.0 Specification
At SC13 Khronos announced the ratification and public release of the finalized OpenCL 2.0 specification, the new generation open standard for cross-platform parallel programming. With an enhanced execution model and a subset of the C11 and C++11 memory model, synchronization and atomic operations, OpenCL 2.0 represents a major evolution of the open, royalty-free standard and enables a significantly richer range of algorithms and programming patterns to be easily accelerated with improved performance.
