FLH Book & Music Sale

Mark your 2014 calendars! Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i announces its 5th annual FLH January Book & Music Sale presented by title sponsor and community partner, Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union! Taking place over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend, January 18, 19, & 20, 2014, this sale features the FLH music collection including over 10,000 records and CDs. In addition, find over 10,000 books and other media for sale, including new and gently used books, greeting cards, sports cards, and more! The sale will be open at the Harbor Warehouse from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. each day. Find directions to the Harbor Warehouse location here: Book & Music Directions.

Many thanks to our music volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to sort and price the tens of thousands of donations of records and CDs. Dennis Kim, our record expert, has been in the music business for over 20 years and is a collector himself. He is passionate about music and has been working to make sure the FLH records offered for sale are of good quality. Toni B and Cecile Smith, our CD volunteers, clean, sort, and price all CDs. This incredible array of music only happens once a year, so don’t miss it!

FLH Pop-up Bookstores

FLH in partnership with the Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union (HSFCU), opened its first pop-up bookstore in the lobby of the Halekauwila Branch of HSFCU on August 22, 2013, . Since August, the bookstore has earned over $2,000 for Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i to further our mission of library support. With three bookcases of assorted materials, HSFCU members have enjoyed easy access to a wide variety of ever changing titles. FLH restocks weekly and updates inventory each month. FLH is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with HSFCU and appreciates its efforts to further our fundraising goals.

On November 22, 2013,  FLH opened its second pop-up bookstore in the lobby of the Ali‘i Place Branch of the Hawai‘i State FCU. This branch, conveniently located in downtown Honolulu on the corner of Alakea and Hotel Streets, extends FLH fundraising efforts further into the community. At this second location, HSFCU members are able to enjoy access to a variety of affordable new and used books.

On December 4, FLH opened its third pop-up bookstore in the lobby of the Hawai‘i State Library (HSL). The store is restocked weekly and there is an honor box for payment. Prices may be found on the first blank page of each book. Proceeds from this pop-up bookstore go to the support of programs at the Hawai‘i State Library, the flagship of the Hawai‘i State Public Library System. HSL conducts fascinating programs throughout the year for all audiences. Founded in February of 1913, the library is currently celebrating its 100th Anniversary.

In 2013, FLH is grateful for funding support from: Atherton Family Foundation, Kraft Food Group Hawai‘i, Longs Drugs, Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union, HEI Charitable Foundation, HMS Host, Hansen Distribution Group, The Omidyar Ohana Fund through the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, Meadow Gold Dairies, Newman's Own Foundation, NFL Charities, Aloha United Way, Armstrong Produce, DFS Hawai‘i, Roberts Hawai‘i, Toshiba Business Solutions, and the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.

Support Your Public Libraries Through The Friends!

Please consider a gift to the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i at this time of year. Our public libraries are constantly evolving to meet the needs of our communities throughout the State. Our libraries need your support to provide the resources necessary for business and personal development to every age group, every ethnic background, and every income level. To maintain free, public libraries, we must all be active contributors.

"We must not think of learning as only what happens in schools. It is an extended part of life. The most readily available resource for all of life is our public library system."
