It's Beginning to Sound a Lot Like Christmas

If you've been hanging around The Campfire the last couple of nights, you've heard the mellifluous sounds of Cat Scouts singing Christmas songs and sharing tipsy nip nog. Yes, we've begun to celebrate at Cat Scouts, and on Monday (Dec 16) we will begin our Christmas photo contest.

Cat Scout of the Week

This week, the Cat Scouts High Council selected Scout Mauricio as the Cat Scout of the Week.

Scout Mau is always leading his fellow scouts in rousing campfire and troop activities, but this week he did something special. He compiled all of the songs the Cat Scouts have written so that you can find them all in one place: the Songs link on the main menu. (The Cat Scouts staff is working on a snazzy downloadable version and art to accompany the songbook.)

New Merit Badge and Bonus Point Oppurrtunity!

You can now get a merit badge for singing songs around The Campfire! You can join others as part of a carolling group, or lead a group with a holiday song you've written. (It can be a "catified" or "scoutified" version of a pawpular Christmas song.)

If you write the song and lead a group of at least 2 other Cat Scouts singing it, you will score 25 Karma points. You get 10 points for just singing. You can earn a total of 35 points, but it must be for different songs with different scouts. Click here for more info on the badge.

And, thanks to Scout Gracie's suggestion, you can score 20 points for a photo of yourself singing carols with at least 2 fellow Cat Scouts. Use redemption code carolphoto . (We're only promoting this in the newsletter, as a special thank-you to newsletter subscribers.) Yes, photoshopping is purrmitted.

Just a reminder: a redemption code is displayed on the group page and on the achievements page. You enter this redemption code in the redemption form in the sidebar or footer to get your badge.

Are You Ready to Become a Bobcat?

The next batch of Cat Scouts who will be invited to take the rigorous test to become a Bobcat Scout will be announced at the end of this month. If you're serious about rising through the ranks, now might be a good time to earn a few merit badges, keep your activity points high and brush up on your Cat Scout lore, laws, the salute and super-secret pawclasp.

New Merit Badge!

Don you now your gay apparel: it's time to deck the halls!

Don't forget to upload photos/videos of your Holiday Decoration snoopervising adventures for points and a merit badge!

Patrol Update

Over the next couple of weeks, Cat Scouts will publish everything you need to know about Patrols, which are the framework upon which Cat Scout Troops are built.

Patrols are small subgroups within each troop which will compete against each other and other troops' patrols in some raucous Cat Scout activities, like a tracking contest and scavenger hunts.

It provides a way to troop members to compete both against each other and against patrols in other troops, as well as hone their skills and build their troops in preparation for the Cat Scout Jamboree.

Most patrols will be led by Bobcats or other senior Cat Scouts.

Troop leaders (with the help of Bobcats) will be asked to organize interested troop members into patrols, and we will aim for the first-ever patrol contest to happen mid-January. More info will be posted in coming weeks.
