We would like to share what's been going on, and tell you about what's coming up. Operative word being 'we'. Jennifer Bell is now a company, ooh la la.

So this newsletter is the launch party, and you are invited.

What's been happening...

Well we've got a company, that's what, with Executive Director Jan Winter, Executive Producer Kerrie Avery, and Artistic Director Jennifer Bell.

There's also a new Jennifer Bell website.

In the last six months, two years of graft came to a glorious climax in
IN A TOWN at Bristol Proms; The Night Bus Choir have just performed in David Greig's acclaimed play THE EVENTS; and music videos have been the order of the day.

And remember TEMPLE SONGS?

We have this lovely new film by Dave Mackie, which gives you a little window on to the project.

The Beautiful Machine is also appearing in director Freya Billington 's experimental music video, BREAD AND BUTTER, based on TEMPLE SONGS. It is a filmic medley, made out of three of the songs, to be shown early 2014. It was co-produced by Nathan Craig and Tamsin Wiley-Scott.

Current and future work

In 2014 we will develop TEMPLE SONGS, into a theatrical concert called WATER COOLER SONGS, in association with Colston Hall, Arnolfini, Bristol Old Vic, Tobacco Factory Theatres and Pervasive Media Studio.

Jenny is embarking on some R&D at Southbank Centre with IMPROBABLE on their new show THE ELDERS, exploring the meaning of eldership in modern society.

Jenny is also the close-harmony a-cappella composer for The Plasticine Men's latest show, RAHIMULLAH & SONS, which is based on true stories, inspired by gravestones from a graveyard in Kabul. It takes you on an outlandish historic journey along fault lines, from San Francisco to South Africa to Afghanistan.

Opportunity to audition for The Beautiful Machine

The Beautiful Machine needs two new voices, because Blythe is about to go and be famous with Vaults, and Jenny is going to concentrate on directing.

We are looking for extraordinary performers to join the ensemble, and will be conducting auditions in the new year.

Singing class and vocal loveliness

Due to popular demand, the next day-long singing class will take place in Gasworks Studio in St Werburghs on

Saturday 1st February
10.30am - 4pm
£30

We will be learning vocal techniques, playing games and learning a piece or two in close harmony. To participate, you must be able to sing in tune.

Here is a film of the last gorgeous group, in the midst of learning an arrangement by composer, Barbara Rusbridge. They learnt this complex piece in just a few hours.

If you would prefer to get one-to-one vocal tuition, both for singing and speaking, Jenny now gives private lessons and courses in Bristol.

She is endorsed by BIMM University as an 'outstanding' vocal tutor.

Oda a America

Here is a music video made by the incomparably brilliant Maria Mochnacz.

Jenny modelled a plastic garment that was meticulously constructed out of thousands of found objects, and strung together with catgut. Not a strip of gaffa tape in sight; all hand prepared by Maria over months, and filmed over the course of a day.
