Dear Friends of CHWC,

The Board of Directors and Staff of CHWC wish all of you a Merry Christmas and happy holidays filled with all good things!  We would like to thank all of our supporters, volunteers, donors, vendors and the residents of our core Neighborhoods.  We are all excited about the ever increasing involvement of all of our “partners”.
Some of the highlights we would like to share with you from 2013:

  • This year, with your help, we continued our renovations of Waterway Park, it has become a neighborhood hub for family fun!  This past year has seen its use increase from 20 people per day to nearly 100. It is a safe place for families to gather and kids to play.

  •  Nearly 70 people purchased their first homes as a result of our homebuyer education programs. We built 20 new homes in the urban core revitalizing our neighborhoods with affordable, high-quality housing.

  • Over the summer, more high school students joined our Community Alleyway Restoration Program. They painted murals in the alleys and led alleyway cleanup efforts. Those talented students leveraged volunteer assistance from dozens of their peers to clean up alleys and painted ten new murals, which they designed themselves!  These young people are truly becoming leaders in the neighborhood community.

  • We have new and exciting programs and projects developing for 2014 that will impact the entire community in a very positive way!

Every single person we come in contact with has helped us in some way. We have indeed been blessed with your friendship, Thank You!

You can help CHWC continue these efforts! Your gift of $75, $250, $1000, makes all the difference to the clients we serve, all of whom work very hard to make ends meet. Your financial support enables us to continue to rebuild and revitalize KCK/Wyandotte County!  Your gift is extremely important; please consider making as generous a gift as you can. We are so grateful for your support, and wish you a happy and peaceful holiday!

With warm wishes,
Donald E. Smith

Another great year for CHWC's Art Squad.

These young folks finished eight more murals in alleyways as part of the Community Alley Renovation (C.A.R.) program, gathered friends to help clean four alleys in the Cathedral neighborhood, and taught art classes in Waterway Park every week this summer.

On top of all of this, they helped clean and take care of landscaping in the park. They passed out fliers notifying neighbors of events and organized the first annual Art Stravaganza, an afternoon of art projects with over 15 local artist sharing their talents. They also have started a walking club giving away pedometers to members. These young people are an amazing asset to our community for which we all are very thankful.

Go Art Squad!

NOTE: CHWC will be out of office from December 23-January 1.
