Sentinel hosts annual pyjama drive
Sentinel Secondary's third annual Pyjama Drive for Admiral Symour School was a huge success with the connection between the two school communities growing even stronger. This year's special event included a total of about 400 students and featured a lunch prepared by the Sentinel foods classes, craft-making and buddy reading, as well as a music concert in the school theatre. The afternoon ended with every Admiral Seymour student receiving a pair of new pyjamas and a hand-made teddy bear.
Students honour Mandela
Several schools marked the occasion of South African leader Nelson Mandela's death by integrating classroom lessons. At Rockridge, students in one class learned to sing Nkosi Sikelel, the South African national anthem, using the Soweto choir as a guide. Another class at Hollyburn Elementary integrated inquiry with the writing process and connected the school's Code of Conduct to Mandela's teachings.

Three prizes were awarded to survey participants, including teacher Christine Andrews, who won a framed First Nation art print; student Arezoo Peymanfar, who picked up a $100 Chapters gift card; and parent Jianjun Zhang, who won a copy of the coffee table book From Cottages to Community.
