SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 2, 2013 –
Openball, an e-platform developed to help organize amateur sports competitions, raised angel fund through Battle Silicon.
Battle Silicon is an award-winning reality TV show series, co-founded by the Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association (HYSTA) and Ding Ding TV.
David Chung, CTO of
Hong Kong Cyberport, incubator of Openball and strategic partner to HYSTA, is happy to see the company’s incubatees obtain tremendous help from Silicon Valley. He’s thrilled that they’ve received a significant investment after appearing at Battle Silicon. “I attended a taping of Battle Silicon’s reality TV show and was very impressed,” David said. “The funding will allow Openball to set up research and marketing centers in Silicon Valley and continue to build a global company. I look forward to more collaboration with Battle Silicon.”
Openball’s funding came from three primary sources, including
Telenav, whose president and CEO,
HP Jin, served as a one of the judges of Battle Silicon. HP is also a former HYSTA president and board member. “Congratulations to the Openball team on developing a technology and business which impressed all the judges, including myself,” said HP Jin, “I am a strong believer in supporting teams that are willing to work hard and with passion to make great products and great companies. I wish them good luck as they pursue this in the months and years to come.”
Since its inception, more than 20 startups have attended
Battle Silicon. Among them are Hong Kong natives Ken Chu and Yuk Tse, the co-founders of Openball. They were introduced to Battle Silicon by Cyberport and participated in Battle Silicon’s fourth contest show. “HYSTA, Ding Ding TV and Hong Kong Cyberport are forging an excellent platform for Hong Kong startups to meet with international investors,” said Ken and Yuk. “It is surely an eye-open platform for Hong Kong startups.”
One of the missions of both HYSTA and Ding Ding TV is to foster entrepreneurship. “The Battle Silicon project is part of HYSTA’s effort to foster technology entrepreneurship,” said
Wei Zhou, a co-founder and panel member of Battle Silicon, HYSTA 2013 president, and founder and CEO of
Centrillion Biosciences, “We are glad to see that Battle Silicon is helping entrepreneurs, such as the Openball team, raise early financing so they can focus on developing products that will change the world.”
HYSTA is one of the largest and most influential professional organizations to foster entrepreneurship across the Pacific. Appealing to contestants from all over the world and armed with judges with diverse cultural backgrounds, HYSTA’s project Battle Silicon has become a global and cross-cultural platform for international entrepreneurs to interact with venture capitalists and high-tech business leaders. “HYSTA strived to continuously influence and encourage the development of entrepreneurship globally, through networking and mentorship,” remarked
Jack Jia, a co-producer and judge of Battle Silicon, HYSTA board member and former president, investor, and founder of several successful high-tech companies. “Battle Silicon embodies HYSTA’s mission by providing a global platform for international entrepreneurs to seek for financial and mentoring supports.”
The emphasis on the support of entrepreneurship is not lost on any who participate in Battle Silicon, including
Leslie Yuen, a co-producer and EQ judge of Battle Silicon, former executive director of HYSTA . He said, “Battle Silicon changes lives, one entrepreneur at a time.”
