Lesson 86: Peace from the Flesh, Part 3
3rd, the peace we give ourselves does not satisfy our soul with contentment.
We may convince our mind of some truth, but only God can settle our affections.
4th, worst of all, peace that comes from the flesh does not change our life.
James 1:22-25 be doers of the word & not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. If anyone is a hearer of the word & not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. He looks at himself, goes away & at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, & perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed.
God’s peace causes us to actually turn from our sin.
Psa.85:8 Let me hear what God the Lord will speak; he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly.
If you take the peace lightly, and don’t appreciate it, that’s the flesh talking.
Jer.6:14 They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
