The Royal Porcelain Factory, Berlin  (Or in German, Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berli) is also referred to as KPM.

The KPM factory was founded in the 18th century by Frederick II of Prussia (Frederick the Great). Frederick the Great referred to himself as, “his own best customer”. KPM’s original goal was to produce  'white gold' (i.e. porcelain).

The company logo, a cobalt blue scepter, is stamped (or painted prior to 1837) on every piece and every KPM piece is signed by the painter. True to protocol, epoca’s  Berlin biscuit porcelain punchbowl is  signed and dated ‘J. Maentel 1876’. The blue scepter mark is on the inside of the rim.
