Ministry Conversations... IMPORTANT

Christ Church and St. James have had great conversations and I look forward to the conversation at St. John's this Sunday... please attend!

The conversations will include new ministry, financial focuses for 2014 and service schedules and times. Please plan on participating:

December 15th @ St. Johns

This is a very important time for us to reflect on our work in 2013, consider our work for 2014 and structure ourselves in the best possible ways for us to ensure we are making ministry happen, strengthening our parishioners faith journey, and building our community in the coming year! Please join in at these meetings!

Christmas Offerings to the Church Mission...

As a not-for-profit organization our church depends on the givings from its donors to support its annual activities. Often churches throughout the diocese are prayerfully hoping that donors financially support the mission in an increased way during the Christmas season to ensure that all year end bills are paid up. In our Parish we find ourselves in this position as well and we welcome all donors to consider sending in their Christmas offerings prior to December 24th. We have an amazing mission story throughout our community so I am convinced our church is a very worthwhile investment of your time, talent and treasure.  Please do not hesitate to talk to your Warden and/or myself if you have any questions about the finances of our mission and the ways that you might want to support our community as we close 2013 and begin 2014.

Offerings to the Christmas Baskets and Angel Tree...

If you are hoping to donate to the Christmas Basket program and/or you have an angel tree gift please place the items in the Parish Hall. If you have a cheque for the grocery expenses for the program please feel free to drop it off in the Parish Office (cheques should be made payable to the West Carleton Emergency Food Aid).

Please remember that the baskets being delivered include a Christmas Dinner and a Christmas Morning Breakfast...items that would fit in these baskets should be delivered to the Parish Hall. Items that will support families during other times of the year should be taken directly to the Food Bank itself... if you need more info please contact Cathy at 613-839-3195 for more info.

Basket and Gift Delivery Day is Friday, December 20th... if you would like to volunteer please call Cathy at 613-839-3195.

Parish Stamps are Now Available

We have some amazing collectible Canada Post stamps with our very own stained glass pictures on them. This is an awesome fundraiser and unique gift for you to consider. Packs of 12 are available with one stained glass photo from each church.

UPDATE... the sales for these books have been fantastic and we are almost sold out of our second batch of stamps. There are 10 St. James windows (right hand stamps above) and five Christ Church windows (middle above) left. I think we may have a new annual tradition! (Let's face it... we have more beautiful stained glass to turn into stamps!). The remaining stamps are in the Parish Office.

Snow Shovelling Program for Seniors available...

Need help clearing your driveway this winter?
The Snow Go program helps seniors and people with disabilities find a reputable and reliable individual or contractor to clear snow from their private driveway and walkway.  The City of Ottawa partners with the Senior Citizens Council and local home support agencies to deliver this winter program.

Eligible low income seniors and persons with disabilities can also apply for the Snow Go Assist Program and receive financial assistance for snow clearing.  Approved participants may be reimbursed for 50 per cent of the cost of snow clearing, up to a seasonal maximum of $250.  Low income is defined as an annual income of below $25,000 for a single individual and below $32,000 for a household (two or more persons).  An Older Adult is considered any person over the age of 60 years.

For more information about the Snow Go and the Snow Go Assist programs, please visit ottawa.ca/snowgo or call 3-1-1.

Special Talents Needed for Advent and Christmas....

Ticket Takers and Hosts for Tales and Tunes on December 13th:
We have some volunteers signed up but if you can help out when we are there that would be great... we have only 10 minutes to distribute and clean up Apple Cider during intermission so any helpful hands would be great!

Christmas Day:
For the past two years we have had birthday cake/cupcakes for breakfast after the 10am service. If you would be willing to bring a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Day please let me know.

Thank you in advance to the many lay administrators, readers, altar guild members, coffee hour leaders, greeters, and many many more who make our Advent and Christmas season happen!

In all the reading that I have done this week on Mandela I have found this one to be one of the most authentic in remembering just how radical this man was: http://thinkprogress.org/home/2013/12/06/3030781/nelson-mandela-believed-people-wont-talk/

Closing Note...Last night I spent the evening preparing part of the Christmas Eve 'surprise' that the children will receive at the Family Services at Christ Church and St. Johns... it's getting exciting to think about Christmas Eve! I hope you are enjoying your Advent Journey.

Here is a wonderful online Advent Calendar that I am enjoying this season: http://bustedhalo.com/features/advent-calendar-2013

Blessings,
Monique
