ARA Christmas Appeal

Can you help Viola protect her young brothers and sisters who are alone and in danger?

Viola* (pictured) hasn’t seen her 7 younger brothers and sisters since they witnessed their parents being murdered and ran from the fighting.

All alone, Viola risked her life every day, travelling through Congo and Malawi. She was vulnerable and experienced the trauma of abuse and unspeakable violence.

A few years ago, Viola arrived in Australia, pregnant, scared and on a visa for women at risk. It saved her life.

Viola recently discovered her brothers and sisters are refugees in Uganda but they are not safe there. She needs your help to bring them to safety.

St Michael's College
Christmas Donation

Thankyou to Murtaza Hussaini, an ARA Youth Ambassador and Senior student at St Michael’s College for leading the primary school Christmas can and food drive this year.

The school chose to give the donation to ARA to be used in the help desk and for Christmas hampers.

The students worked hard to donate over 700 cans and St Michael’s is looking forward to working closely with ARA in 2014.

A Moment in Reception

From ARA receptionist, Christine:

A young girl, about 10 years old came in and gave me $50 to, in her words, "donate to the refugees."   Her or her mum didn't want a receipt they just wanted to leave the money. As the mum sat down I told the young girl I would give her a special piece of paper with her name on it (receipt!) that said she had donated her money and that this special piece of paper was hers to keep. The look on her face was priceless (naturally I had to control my tears).

I fussed over her and thanked her so much for donating and that she was so very kind to do that.

That made my day and restored my faith in humanity, even if just for a short moment.
