In an effort to share information on subjects that are relevant to the health of the population, here is some information on kids safety at playtime. We invite you to share this message with your clients, partners and members of your respective networks. You may also wish to gather their comments and send them to us.
Searching for the perfect toys that will please all kids? Health Canada has produced the guide "Is Your Child Safe? Play Time" to create safer play experiences and to make safer choices when selecting toys for children. Some quick facts for parents and caregivers:
- Purchase age-appropriate toys. Toys for older children may contain small parts or present other hazards that make them unsafe for younger children.
- Avoid toys with cords that are long enough to wrap around a child's neck, especially stretchy or sticky cords. The cords could strangle a child.
- Check stuffed and plush toys to make sure that the eyes, nose, and other small items are firmly attached and cannot be pulled off.
