The 100 Club and a blank check on the table

January 22, 2014

Home Sweet Home

After 9,000+ miles in a minivan, visiting supporters on the entire West Coast, completing missionary training in Colorado, and spending the holidays with family in Kentucky and Washington, we're back home. For the first time in three months we feel at least a little bit settled. It's truly sweet to be home.

The 100 Club

We are so thankful to God for the churches, families, and individuals who have already joined our support team. Currently, we are right at 60% of our monthly support needs! This is such an encouragement, but we still have 40% to go before we can buy our plane tickets to Czech. That's why we're excited to tell you about a little thing we call The 100 Club.

If 100 more people support our ministry at $35/month we can move to Czech! At this writing there are only 93 spots left as others have already joined The 100 Club. Would you prayerfully consider how God would use you to partner with our family in taking the Gospel to the unreached of Central and Eastern Europe. You can join The 100 Club and our support team by clicking here (all donations are tax-deductible in the U.S.A.).

April 30, 2014

As we continue raising support for the finances to move overseas, it is our prayerful desire to be in Czech Republic by the end of April 2014. Our missions agency, Josiah Venture, will be holding their annual Spring Conference (April 30 - May 4) where all 240+ missionaries come together from 13 countries to be around God's Word and enjoy fellowship together. This year one of my favorite authors, Bryan Chapell, will be speaking at the conference and we would love to join our friends and fellow missionaries for this wonderful event. Will you pray that God would provide all of our support by the end of April so we can mobilize and begin ministry in Czech Republic?

A Blank Check on the Table

We had the joy this week of being at The Master's College (our alma mater) for their annual Truth & Life Conference. This year's theme was "A Sanctified Life" and we sat under the preaching of Dr. David Platt in two of the main sessions. You're probably familiar with his bestselling book Radical, or you know him through his extensive missions focus and pastoral ministry in Birmingham, Alabama. Both of the sessions he preached were Biblical and Christ-honoring, but his second message had Bethany and I in tears.

At one point, Dr. Platt said, "Put a blank check on the table with your life before the Lord, no strings attached, and say I’ll go wherever you want me to go...here I am, send me." That resonated with Bethany and I because we're right in the middle of God filling out that check. We know we're called to take the gospel to Central and Eastern Europe and our resolve has not changed, although the timing has been different than we thought. As we wait on the Lord to provide our funding, we're thankful that God is willing to use us to be part of taking the gospel to "all the nations."

Prayer

  • It is our heart's desire to be in Czech by the end of April. Please ask the Lord with us to provide the needed remaining support and for others to join with us.
  • February 11-12 - I (Shay) will be flying to Richmond, Virginia to meet up with the rest of the Josiah Venture Creative Communications team for two days of training. Please pray for safety as I travel and for Bethany as she will be home alone with the kids for a few days.
  • Please pray for the day-to-day work of raising support that we would be faithful to the task and be wise with our time.

Czech Republic's men's national ice hockey team took home gold in the 1998 Winter Olympic games in Nagano, Japan. Besides Russia and Canada, the Czechs have won more world ice hockey tournaments than any other nation on the planet.
