Since the last edition I have,
~ continued my schedule of regular campaigning around Harrow East.
~ signed the Holocaust Education Trust's Book of Commitment in memory of the millions who perished in concentration camps in the Second World War.
|
|
~ joined representatives of the Bhagwan Shree Lakshmi Narayan Dham (UK) charity, in my role as Chairman of the APPG British Hindus, as they donated food collected by the Hindu community to Harrow's Food Bank at the Holy Trinity Church in Wealdstone.
|
|
|
|
~ presented an award at the 2nd British Kebab Awards ceremony, held to recognise the wonderful contribution of these food retail outlets to our economy and celebrate the achievements of the best kebab restaurants in the country.
~ hosted a meting of the APPG British Hindus to discuss the future programme of events, immediate issues to be tackled and ways in which the group can best serve the Hindu community over the coming year.

~ spoke at the "Run for Unity", which started at Jalaram Mandir and was run as part of an effort to raise funds to create a large statue of the founding father of the Republic of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
|
|
|
|
~ welcomed the Foreign Secretary, Rt Hon William Hague, to Whitmore School to meet secondary students and discuss international politics with them. Hannah David, the Parliamentary Candidate for Harrow West (far left, below), also joined them for the visit.

|
~ hosted José MarÃa Aznar, the former Prime Minister of Spain, as he launched a report by the Henry Jackson Society and The Friends of Israel, entitled ‘Added Value: Israel’s Strategic Worth to the EU and its Member States’.
|
|
|
|
~ welcomed Nicky Morgan, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, to Harrow for a dinner with local Conservative Association members.
~ joined Theresa Villiers MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, on a visit to the World Sikh University in North Harrow.
|
|
~ helped to announce the winner for the Small Businesses Competition run jointly with Hannah David, the Parliamentary Candidate for Harrow West; The Chocolate Room in Harrow Town Centre was crowned after receiving the most votes from the public.
|
|
|
|
~ continued my work on the Communities and Local Government Select Committee and the Backbench Business Committee.
|
|
|
~ paid a visit to a night shelter run by the FirmFoundation charity, which has received 143 referrals across Harrow since April 2013, and which runs four winter night shelters, where I spoke with volunteers about the issues the charity faces in going ahead as demand increases.
|
|
|
|
~ continued to hold surgeries in my office in Harrow for individual cases and for groups: last week I welcomed a group of residents from Edgware to discuss their objections to a Tesco opening on Whitchurch Lane and to receive their petition containing over 400 signatures.
|
|
~ hosted a Shout Out UK event in Parliament to allow discussion about the influence of corporate interests on government, and to discuss Economic Democracy at large.
|
|
|
~ joined a panel for the Harrow Environmental Forum Question Time with Harrow Friends of the Earth and the Stanmore Society to field questions from the audience on a variation of subjects, including HS2, housing and the protection of green belt land
|
|
|
~ attended New Year celebrations with a group of Tamang, the indigenous inhabitants of northern regions of Nepal, at Copland School. The event was held to mark one of three New Year celebrations that take place in Nepal.
|
|
|
|
~ had meetings with various colleagues, constituents and charity representatives to discuss the issues that matter to our area.
