Can you explain your research in 180 seconds?

The 3MT is a research communication competition that challenges students to present their research topic and its significance in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience. 

The 3MT will give you a chance to promote your research, practice your communication skills and engage with the Laurier community. Winners receive cash prizes and the opportunity to represent Laurier at the Ontario 3MT Competition hosted by McMaster University on April 24.  All Laurier master's or doctoral students writing an MRP or thesis/dissertation are eligible to compete.  Registration closes February 3rd.

Attention PhD Students

Did you know your advisor can nominate you for a $1250 Travel & Research Award?


Remind your advisor to nominate you for the Travel & Research Award by January 15th.  Funds may be used to:

a) travel to scholarly conferences for the purposes of research presentation;
b) travel opportunities for advanced research training (e.g., workshops on statistical methods; access to special archives, equipment, collections, fieldwork; international practica).
 


 


Discovering the Entrepreneur Within


By participating in this workshop, students will learn about:
  • the qualities and characteristics of different types of entrepreneurship,
  • how to assess risk,
  • what makes a good business plan, and
  • how to pitch it.

Mitacs Globalink Research Award


The Mitacs Globalink Research Award provides funding to support student research projects abroad:

 
  • Up to $5,000 in research award to Canadian supervisors for student travel expenses
  • For joint projects with academic collaborators
  • Partner countries: Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam
  • Open to graduate students
  • Applications accepted any time
This award helps faculty and students in Canada expand their research networks through international collaborations.

Graduate Students' Conference in Indigenous Research (GSCIR)


The Aboriginal Students Association of Laurier Brantford is pleased to host the 1st annual Graduate Students' Conference in Indigenous Research (GSCIR) taking place on January 31st- February 1st at Laurier’'s Brantford campus, located at 150 Dalhousie St., Brantford, Ontario.

The over-representation of Aboriginal peoples in the criminal justice system in Canada prompts a closer examination of the positive and negative interactions of Indigenous people globally with the law. 

This interdisciplinary conference, in collaboration with the department of Criminology and Indigenous Studies, will examine such topics as indigenity, globalization, and the law.
