- Program requirements: These grants provide funds for items not normally available through the student’s university. Additionally, these grants allow doctoral students to undertake significant data-gathering projects and to conduct field research in settings away from their campus that would not otherwise be possible. The dissertation proposal must be submitted by the dissertation advisor on behalf of the graduate student who is at the point of initiating or already conducting dissertation research.

Summer Internship Program in Research for Graduate Students

- Program requirements: Interns in this eight-week program participate in research under the guidance of an ETS mentor. One goal of the program is to increase the number of scholars and students from diverse backgrounds conducting research in educational measurement and related fields. Interns also participate in seminars and workshops on a variety of topics. Interns are required to give a brief presentation about their project at the conclusion of the internship. The Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF) program supports mid-stage graduate students in formulating effective doctoral dissertation research proposals that contribute to the development of interdisciplinary fields of study in the humanities and social sciences. Jack Kent Cooke Dissertation Fellowship Award

Post-doctoral Training Program in Interdisciplinary Education Research (PostPIER)

- Program requirements: Program aims to train learning scientists who will acquire the skills and experience necessary to advance our knowledge about human learning and to translate that knowledge into effective instruction. Training will focus on cognitive, metacognitive, and/or motivational foundations for developing and implementing evidence-based instructional methods that can improve teaching and learning in authentic educational settings. Post-docs under this grant would be involved in one or more of the following areas of research and training: science and math education, from pre-K through college level; educational data mining; new forms of assessment and cognitive diagnosis in science and math education.

- Program requirements: To support the next generation of applied researchers in health, health services, and policy. The BCBSM Foundation’s mission is to improve the health of Michigan residents through the support of research projects that affect quality and costs of care, access to care, or community health. Excludes basic research, drug studies, and research involving non-human subjects.
- Citizenship: Any.
- Eligibility: Doctoral and medical students at Michigan universities who research health care topics.
- Award: $3,000 stipend, to fund health care projects, including applied research, pilot programs, or demonstration and evaluation projects.
