A Year in Review
2013 was the first full year of Tech-Girls. It was packed with wonderful memories and noteworthy accomplishments:
- We provided in-depth, hands-on technology learning opportunities to well over 100 girls in and around Charlottesville.
- We explored video game design, website design & development, soft circuit creation and programming with Scratch, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Stencyl.
- Girl Rising Film Premiere hosted by Tech-Girls in March was seen by a sold out in audience in Charlottesville.
- Tech-Girls project received 2nd place at Startup Weekend EDU in April.
- Lots of positive press for Tech-Girls including coverage for CoderDojo Girls: The Maker Party and our booth at the Charlottesville Mini-Maker Faire.
- Tech-Girls hosted the first annual Women in Tech Panel in Charlottesville on October 11, the International Day of the Girl.
- Hour of Code reached hundreds of students of all ages in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

Partners, Supporters and Collaborators!
Tech-Girls would not be possible without the support and ongoing commitment of organizations & individuals who also seek to address gender equity in computing and expand the STEM job preparedness pipeline:
- Computers4Kids, Albemarle County Public Schools, Charlottesville City Schools, HackCville and Light House Studio provided space, technology and funds to run a variety of workshops and monthly meetups.
- Thanks to a Community Grant from the Junior League of Charlottesville, Tech-Girls at C4K now offers a weekly after-school program exploring computer science topics.
- Thanks to support from RKG, Tech-Girls at C4K had all the supplies they needed to make their soft circuit creations.

Looking Forward
As well as our usual live & local meetups, workshops and events, we are looking forward to some new activities in 2014!
- We are adding new project-based computer science explorations including application development, Raspberry Pi and robotics. We're especially excited to get our hands on the Hummingbird robotics kit which we'll be using to bring art to life.
- Girls' Geek Days are coming soon - February 22, March 15 and April 12.
- Tech-Girls will share a booth with Cyberjutsu Girls at the USA Science & Engineering Festival April 26 & 27. We definitely need lots of volunteers for this exciting event.

Live & Local
- Weekly - Tech-Girls meet weekly at Computers4Kids on Tuesday evenings. Contact us if you are interested in participating with this group.
- January 23 - Tech-Girls of all ages meet twice a month at Henley, the second & fourth Thursdays of the month. Reserve your spot now. (1/23, 2/13, 2/27, 3/13, 3/27, 4/10, 4/24, 5/8 & 5/22)
- January 25 - Playing ACES K-12 Chess Challenge Event. Open to all K-12 public, private, alternative and home school students in Charlottesville City / Albemarle County and the surrounding areas. Registration required.
- January 26 - Video Game Design at Light House Studio for 6 weeks with Kim Wilkens. Registration is required.
- February 5 - Intro to Wearable Electronics/Soft Circuit Creations at HackCville.
- February 22 - Girls' Geek Day will be exploring Games for Change by providing lots of fun, hands-on coding opportunities for girls. Registration required.
- April 26 & 27 - USA Science & Engineering Festival (Washington DC). This is a great experience for the whole family - tons of hands-on activities and the opportunity to meet your favorite STEM rock star plus it's all free!
Virtual & Global
- Ongoing (monthly) - CreateHS is an online high school coding competition with new challenges released every month. Check out this month's challenge.
- March 1 (deadline) - E-Girl Essay Contest. Open to grades 3 through 12, this contest challenges you to look into our engineering past so you can imagine what the future will bring. Submission guidelines.
- April 11 (deadline) - K-12 JMU Physics Video Contest. Put some STEAM into your science curriculum by giving your students the opportunity to explore and demonstrate their understanding of physics concepts through video. Submission guidelines
