Cha Wakan - tree of life:
:: Cha Wakan ::
11" x 14" Watercolour on arches 300g
In me all life is one: There is no separation and no demarcation of other. The nuances of vision may vary as may our individual perceptions, as every leaf has a different view of the same picture. But every leaf relies on the same sap to give it life and is nowhere separated. But in each leaf is its own exaltation.

Lakota teaching from Kimberly Glaser
This is my proud mom (with my partner Andre) receiving her Christmas gift!

"Cha Wakan" means tree of life in Lakota, and is part of a beautiful set of teachings which my mother identifies with.

The three babies represent me and my two younger brothers, and the colours are representational of the chakra system, which she introduced me to. My mom has a beautiful patch of white hair (which I inherited!) and I included a lovely strip in the painting. I used my own face for reference, as we share many of the same facial features. She was very happy to receive the gift.
I also painted a portrait of my father and stepmother for Christmas:

11" x 14" Watercolour on arches 300g

And they were very happy to receive the gift!
I did a second edition of the cutest pomeranian in the world
and painted an ethereal abstract landscape, and technicolour squid!
I've also been busy painting new Water Bottles!

The bottles were a huge hit for christmas, and my shop sold out! I currently have two new ones left, and more coming!
In celebration of Winter Solstice...
Andre and I made 40 cards with pressed hydrangea flower petals.
We dried fruit, and collected herbs and spices
and created our own 'Orange and Fig Chai' tea
which we packaged with love!
Since we love the earth, and since re-using/cycling is important to us, we made our cards and envelopes from found paper and forgotten books, and shipped them out with this invitation:
For Christmas...
I framed some of my prints, and wrapped them in vibrant water resistant pages (courtesy of another forgotten book)
I attached little notes on the front and inside
and then at midnight, on Christmas eve, Andre and I took to the streets on reindeer (aka bikes) and left gifts in parks, gardens, and community places.
We later received some emails from folks who were ecstatic to find the gifts on Christmas morning :)
colour: mustard yellow
a deep yellow filled with warmth.

This rich and cheerful colour is a pain soother. It helps with healing and boosting the immune system. It also promotes confidence, empowerment, and self worth. This colour combats the winter blues! It is also the colour of both intellect, and curiosity. Its complementary colour is blue-violet.
scribbles: a free colouring page!

I illustrated this colouring page in honour of the Tree. You don't need to be a child to practice mindful colouring!
