Will local commercial development rebound in 2014?
Residential development in and around Elko New Market made a strong comeback in 2013. The Elko New Market Chamber of Commerce is hopeful that commercial and business development will follow in 2014. A few speculative projects already in play seems to suggest that will be the case.
Drive-in Movie Theater
Elko Speedway has proposed adding a drive-in movie theater to its existing property. The addition would allow the Speedway to expand its business outside of race nights. At least initially, area residents seem to be in favor of the concept. The Elko New Market Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the matter at its meeting Tuesday, January 7, at 7 p.m. at the Elko New Market Library. Come out and learn more and voice your support for a fellow Chamber member.
Potential Retail/Office Building
The Chamber is working with Cerron Properties to determine the feasibility of a new office/retail building in Elko New Market. Several local businesses have approached the Chamber seeking space. In response, Cerron is developing a proforma of anticipated land acquisition, construction, build-out/tenant improvement costs to determine estimated lease rates. If you or someone you know may be interested in learning more about locating a business in this possible project, please contact Bruce Rydeen at Cerron Properties: 952.469.9444 or brucer@cerron.com.
These are positive developments. Retailer continue to struggle, however, and are leery that another summer of I-35 road construction will further hinder their success. So, please, remember to shop, spend and support local businesses whenever possible.
