Feature Story ~
2014 The Year of the Empowered Female: VSP Capricorn Morning Star
Every eight years Venus completes a pentagram, or 5-pointed star in the heavens. This month Venus completes the eight year pentagram begun in January 2006 and begins a new one, in the sign Capricorn. What might this mean for us personally and for the world at large? For all of us, it means organization is important. That can mean anything from clearing out the clutter, trimming the over-growth, down-sizing, dieting, budgeting, streamlining, and more to the point - making our lives function more easily and orderly. Capricorn is an earth sign and beckons us to pay attention to the earthly realm. While some will interpret this to the extreme and go overboard, such as cutting out necessary and practical programs in order to save a buck here or there, it is necessary to look at the bigger picture more realistically. If adding or investing in something new, what can be eliminated, so as to keep a balance? Venus is at the start of her cycle, spending 40 days retrograde in the sign Capricorn (December 21, 2013 - January 31, 2014) where she disappears from the night sky, communes with the Sun, then turns up in the Morning sky, approximately January 17, before the retrograde is over.

We are calling 2014 The Year of the Empowered Female for several reasons...
The Morning Star is the ACTIVE or YANG principle of Venus as opposed to the Evening Star which is considered the REFLECTIVE or YIN aspect of Venus. Capricorn is a sign of power, personal and collective authority , especially in business, government and leadership roles of all types. The Venus Star Point in this upcoming phase as a Morning Star in Capricorn will witness women and the female perspective gaining great strides in 2014. Women will rise to new heights of liberation as many who are feeling held back or suppressed will advance upward and break out.  Adding additional fuel to this energy of female empowerment is Pluto which will remain in Capricorn for the next decade. The added power of Pluto to the Capricorn VSP will likely intensify; watch the political scene around election time 2014 to see how this all plays out.
Along these lines, Mars, the archetypal male principle, will be retrograde MARCH 1 through MAY 19, 2014 in the sign Libra. Libra is the sign of balance – balance between feminine and masculine, between the day and night force, between the Yin and Yang principle and between the forever raging battle of the sexes. The Mars cycle in Libra also gives power, as we have recently witnessed, to the legalization of same-sex marriage. With Mars retrograde in Libra for such an extended time this year, the male principle and men in general might be scratching their heads and wondering in which direction they should go. And while men are in this perplexed and puzzled mode, women will be racing to the finish line. It also indicates that men will be in retreat or in re-group mode for the early part of the year. (It’s okay guys, take a break!! If you force the issues too soon, they will likely backfire on you.)

In keeping with this theme, we are calling upon some of the women who have inspired us in ground-breaking ways during this current era.

Women to watch in 2014:
The list could go on forever, but here are some of the women who have recently shown extraordinary leadership capability and have demonstrated their expertise in many fields across the globe. Feel free to add to this list by emailing us at: www.VenusStarRising.com or post on our Facebook page at Venus Star Rising.

Janet Yellen - August 13, 1946 (age 67), Brooklyn, NY – (VSP 12* Aquarius Evening Star)
On January 6, 2014, the United States Senate confirmed Yellen's nomination to be Chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors; she is slated to be the first woman to hold this position.   She was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton, and Professor Emerita at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Ms. Yellen is a Leo Sun, Aquarius VSP, with ruling planet of the VSP, Uranus, conjunct the North Node in Gemini. This is the identical configuration of her former boss, President Clinton (they were born only four days apart).

Marianne Williamson - July 8, 1952 (age 61), Houston, TX – (VSP 3* Cancer Evening Star)
Author of 10 books, a spiritual teacher, and now she is a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s Congressional District 33. Emmanuel Itier, producer on the movie "Femme" which features Marianne, Seane Corn, Sharon Stone, Jean Houston, and many other forward-thinking women, was recently asked what he learned from making "Femme" and he replied, "When men are involved in politics it's all about money and power; when Women are elected - and it has been proven over and over in Liberia, Germany, Chile and Argentina - they focus on education, family, health and work. Elect men and you end up with war; elect women and you end up with peace." As a Cancer Sun and Cancer VSP, she is regarded as a pure archetype of Venus. She has sought to teach universal love and brings passion and peace to all her undertakings. Many find her nourishing, nurturing Cancerian style to be an antidote to the cold and harsh talking heads that we have become accustomed to in politics.

Arianna Huffington - July 15, 1950 (age 63), Athens, Greece (VSP 10* AQ Morning Star)
A Greek-American author and syndicated columnist, she is best known for her news website The Huffington Post. At one time a liberal Democrat, she later became a popular conservative commentator in the mid-1990s, after which she adopted liberal political beliefs in the late 1990s.  She is the former spouse of former Republican congressman Michael Huffington. As a Cancer Sun with Aquarius VSP, Huffington has been successful at corralling the airwaves for a fresh perspective to the cable network news and other online information sources. Aquarius, the principle of circulation, especially through media outlets, is the sign that hosts dozens of other successful media personalities.

Wendy Davis - May 16, 1963 (age 50), West Warwick, RI (VSP 19* SCO Morning Star)
Texas state senator and now candidate for Texas governor who gained notoriety when she filibustered for 11 hours to block the passage of an anti-abortion bill all while wearing pink running shoes!— That’s a stick-to-it pair of fixed signs (“I will not yield”) Taurus Sun with Scorpio VSP. Go, girl!

Elizabeth Warren - June 22, 1949 (age 64), Oklahoma City, OK (VSP 26* Aries Evening Star)
An American academic and politician who is currently the senior United States Senator from Massachusetts and a member of the Democratic Party. She was previously a Harvard Law School professor specializing in bankruptcy law…One of the freshest and most intelligent and down-to-earth faces that’s emerged from the Senate in recent years, Ms. Warren has my vote for President (or at least VP) for the 2016 election. As a Cancer Sun and Aries ES, she combines the softness and sensitivity to people’s issues (Cancer) with the forthright, take-action, pioneering sign of Aries. That being said, what is more likely to happen is that all eyes will be on this next lady.

Hillary Rodham Clinton - October 26, 1947 (age 66), Chicago, IL (VSP 10* VIRGO Evening Star)
Hillary is a former US Secretary of State, US Senator First Lady. From 2009 to 2013, she was the 67th Secretary of State, serving under President Barack Obama. She previously represented NY in the US Senate (2001 to 2009). Before that, as the wife of President Bill Clinton, she was First Lady from 1993 to 2001. In the 2008 election, Clinton was a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. No stranger to American politics, the world has been gazing upon this woman for 25 years since the early 1990s when her husband William Jefferson Clinton became the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. In 1992, with a sweeping victory, she became the American First Lady for 8 years (a Venus cycle). Both dearly loved and also hated, Ms. Clinton is clearly the front runner to be the first female presidential nominee of the Democratic Party even though at this time she has said she is undecided and will not confirm this one way or another. When the VSP switches to Scorpio in late October 2014, it will activate many of Hillary’s Scorpio planets in the 5th House of publicity and fame. It is then that the voice of Hillary will be ringing loudly – in her own behalf or her throwing her support to another candidate.

Mary Teresa Barra - December 24, 1961 (age 51) Waterford, Michigan (VSP 20* ARIES Morning Star)
On December 10, 2013, she was named CEO of GM – the first female CEO of a major global automaker. Barra is scheduled to take office as CEO on January 15 2014, only days after the new Capricorn VSP on January 11. Aries as a VSP and as a MS shows this woman is a pioneer, able to step up and take charge, breaking through a predominantly, if not entirely, male-dominated industry and position.

Marissa Meyer - May 30, 1975 (age 38), Wausau, WI (VSP 13* SCORPIO Evening Star)
Marissa Ann Mayer is President and CEO of Yahoo!  Previously, she was a long-time executive and key spokesperson for Google. Mayer was ranked number 8 on the list of America's most powerful businesswomen of 2013 by Fortune magazine. In 2013, Mayer ranked 32 in the Forbes Magazine's List of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women.[30] Also in 2013, Mayer became the first woman listed as number one on Fortune magazine's annual list of the top 40 business stars under 40 years old. A Gemini Sun, Scorpio VSP, Ms. Meyer has the ability to circulate information (Gemini) while transforming those around her and even the field she is engaged in with a positive flair. Scorpio VSP is always assigned the life task of digging up the dirt or secrets or hidden agendas and exposing it to the world at large. Let’s see how this principle will operate in her life. .

Indra Nooyi - October 28, 1955 (age 58), Chennai, India (VSP 8* VIRGO Evening Star)
Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi is an Indian-American business executive and the current Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo, the second largest food and beverage business in the world by net revenue. Ms. Nooyi is a Scorpio Sun, Virgo VSP, a combination known for their executive leadership, work ethic and fiscal and financial prowess.

Sheryl Sandberg - August 28, 1969 (age 44), Washington, D.C. (VSP 18* Aries Morning Star)
In August 2013, she became the chief operating officer of Facebook. She sold 283,334 shares of Facebook stock on the open market in a transaction that occurred on Thursday, December 19th. The shares were sold at an average price of $54.64, for a total value of $15,481,369.76. Following the completion of the sale, the chief operating officer now directly owns 10,873,505 shares in the company, valued at approximately $594,128,313. A Harvard summa cum laude grad, her book, “Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead”, is the #2 book for women in business and leadership as well as Amazon’s best book of the month in March 2013. Who would be better qualified than Ms. Sandberg, a Virgo Sun, Aries VSP, to speak for women in the workplace?

Tina Fey - May 18, 1970 (age 43), Upper Darby, PA (VSP 4* AQUARIUS Evening Star)
is an American actress, comedian, writer and producer, known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (SNL, 1997–2006), the critically acclaimed NBC comedy series 30 Rock (2006–2013), and such films as Mean Girls (2004), Baby Mama (2008), Date Night (2010), and Admission (2013). Fey has received eight Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, five Screen Actors Guild Awards, four Writers Guild of America Awards and has been nominated for a Grammy Award for her autobiographical book Bossypants, which topped the The New York Times Best Seller list for five weeks. In 2008, the Associated Press (AP) gave Fey the AP Entertainer of the Year award for her satirical portrayal of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in a guest appearance on SNL. In 2010, Fey was the recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the youngest-ever winner of the award.

Amy Poehler - September 16, 1971 (age 42), Newton, MA (VSP 3* Virgo Evening Star)
An American actress, comedian, voice artist, producer and writer, she was a cast member on the NBC television show Saturday Night Live (SNL) from 2001 to 2009 which earned her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.  Since 2009, she has starred as Leslie Knope in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, for which she has been nominated for four Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, three Golden Globe Awards, and one Screen Actors Guild Award.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are teaming up to host the Golden Globes January 12th – this is their second time co-hosting. They received critical acclaim last year. As a Virgo ES, Amy Pohler's Venus Star Point forms a dynamic and evolutionary relationship with Tina Fey's Aquarius ES VSP.

Malala Yousafzai - July 12, 1997 (age 16), Mingora, Pakistan (VSP 12* Aries Evening Star)
A Pakistani school pupil and education activist from the town of Mingora in the Swat District of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. She was given her first name Malala (meaning "grief-stricken")after Malalai of Maiwand, a famous Pashtun poet and warrior woman from southern Afghanistan.
She is known for her activism for rights to education and for women, especially in the Swat Valley, where the Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. In early 2009, at the age of 11–12, Yousafzai wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC detailing her life under Taliban rule, their attempts to take control of the valley, and her views on promoting education for girls. The following summer, a New York Times documentary was filmed about her life as the Pakistani military intervened in the region, culminating in the Second Battle of Swat. Yousafzai rose in prominence, giving interviews in print and on television, and she was nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize by South African activist Desmond Tutu. The world has been completely swept away by this young Cancerian woman who is an Aries ES. Aries Star Points, such as Malala, are no strangers to activism – in fact their lives almost demand they take charge and rally for some important cause, in this case, the education of women under Taliban rule. In solidarity with Malala, people around the world chanted the mantra “I Am Malala” after an assassination attempt by the Taliban and a subsequent recovery in a Birmingham, England hospital.

Jennifer Lawrence - August 15, 1990 (age 23), Louisville, KY (VSP 28* CAPRICORN Morning Star)
is an American actress. Her first major role was as a lead cast member on TBS's The Bill Engvall Show (2007–2009) and she subsequently appeared in the independent films The Burning Plain (2008) and Winter's Bone (2010), for which she received nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Satellite Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. At age 20, she was the third-youngest actress ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. At age 22, her performance in the romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012) earned her the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, Satellite Award and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress, amongst other accolades, making her the youngest person ever to be nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Actress and the second-youngest Best Actress winner.  At age 23, her performance in the comedy-drama American Hustle (2013) earned her nominations for the Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Critics' Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her performance in the films garnered her notable critical praise and marked her as the highest-grossing action heroine to date. Lawrence's performances thus far have prompted Rolling Stone to call her "the most talented young actress in America.”  In 2013, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world, ELLE Magazine named her the most powerful woman in the entertainment business, and she ranked No. 1 on AskMen's list of Top 99 Most Desirable Women of the year.
Ms. Lawrence is a fine example of the Leo-Capricorn feed on the Venus Star. As a Leo Sun, dramatic excellence is evident and as a Capricorn MS VSP which feeds Leo, she has at a young age, mastered the incredibly difficult task of portraying characters with wisdom way beyond their years. Leo and Capricorn VSPs are often “prodigies”, youngsters who demonstrate maturity and capabilities seemingly far beyond their age.
