2014 is going to be an exciting year for radio, especially with hundreds of new LPFM community stations hitting the air. There are plenty of other interesting developments on the horizon, too. There are rumors of YouTube launching a streaming music service, while Europe's Deezer makes plans to enter the US, packing a crowded field even tighter.
While we watch and cover these services, we also strongly believe that the human element in radio is tough to beat. How does a listener sort through an on-demand library of millions of tracks? DJs have been our guide for most of radio's history, and now internet radio and social services like plug.dj let even more music lovers curate and share unique listening experiences. That's why we cover this field in our weekly Internet DJ feature.
It's hard to find radio more human-driven than college radio. After the news of several high-profile stations leaving the airwaves in the last few years, this last year seemed to be a more positive one for college broadcasting. In October Jennifer considered the proposition that college radio is making a comeback. Schools and students are taking advantage of both the airwaves and the internet to continuously infuse new life into the medium, and the LPFM opportunity may bring extra energy. So we'll keep our ears on this important form of radio, and you can expect coverage every Friday.
In this week's Bulletin we take our final look back at 2013, with a list of the top 5 most popular stories this past year, along with a selection of stories you might have missed the first time around.
As always, we love to hear from you. Please let us know if there's something you'd like us to cover, or if you have any feedback. Drop us a line at editors@radiosurvivor.com
Thanks,
Your humble Radio Survivors
