Holiness, Godliness, Usefulness

Lesson 110: Holiness Is Required
God requires holiness; it’s not optional. Does that mean salvation depends on our works? No!
Heb.12:14 Strive for peace with everyone & for holiness; without it, no one will see the Lord.
The Bible is clear: even the holiest believers cannot earn salvation by their holiness. No one deserves to be saved.
Even our best works are stained with sin; our righteous deeds are like filthy rags. Isa.64:6
The Bible is also clear that Christ’s righteousness and obedience are credited to believers.
His active obedience is described in Rom.5:19 by the one man's disobedience (Adam) the many were made sinners; by the one man's obedience (Jesus) the many will be made righteous.
Active obedience is talking about His sinless life, His perfect holiness and obedience.
His passive obedience is described in 1 Pet.3:18 Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.
Passive obedience refers to His atoning death which fully paid the penalty for our sins.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
