Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta Finishes Strong
Young sailors from around the globe traveled to South Florida for the 68th Annual Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta, which took place December 27-30 on Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove. This year’s event boasted 689 competitors from 27 states and 23 countries. Final Results

ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami Alert
We are 19 days away from the start of the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami. Over 550 sailors from 49 countries have registered to compete at the third regatta of the 2013-2014 series.

We are days away from crowning the 2013 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year Awards. The 2013 shortlist of nine men and six women, which includes 10 world champions, encompasses athletes racing cutting edge hydrofoils and kiteboards alongside stellar performers in one-design sailing.

US Sailing One-Design Members Offered Promotional Area at Strictly Sail Chicago

Tickets are on sale to attend Strictly Sail Chicago. US Sailing and the National Marine Manufacturers Association have partnered to enable one-design dinghy classes to promote their class associations and one-design sailing. Boat show areas will be provided to any interested US Sailing member classes at no charge to the class. The Pavilion provides one-design class volunteers an opportunity to promote their class at the largest sailing event in the Midwest.

For logistical specifics, visit the Strictly Sail website for exhibitor information or contact Kevin Murphy. In addition to exhibit space, free space is available for class meetings. To schedule a meeting room, contact Patty Lawrence.

US Sailing members can log into their “My US Sailing” account, and visit the "Member Coupons" section to receive a promo code for 20% off adult tickets. Ages 15 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
US Sailing's REACH to Conduct Youth Scavenger Hunt
and Educator Course in Chicago
US Sailing's STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) Education program, REACH, will conduct a fun and exciting Simple Machines Scavenger Hunt for youth at Strictly Sail Chicago. On Saturday, January 25, kids ages 4-18 will be provided with a scavenger hunt card as they enter the show featuring information about the six simple machines. Youth will record the type and location of simple machines throughout the show. Kids can bring their completed cards to room 307 at 3:30 pm. Prizes will be awarded.

On Saturday January 25, Strictly Sail Chicago will also host US Sailing’s STEM Educator Course: Middle School I, is a one -day eight hour professional development/training opportunity for teachers and sailing instructors to learn how to implement US Sailing’s STEM program and curriculum called REACH. Register and learn more about this growing program.
US Sailing Offers Coastal Safety at Sea Seminars
The new half-day Coastal Safety at Sea Seminars are designed for skippers and crew members who participate in coastal or nearshore races. These seminars will help sailors learn more about the latest safety procedures and equipment. The curriculum is derived from the one-day and two-day seminars offered by US Sailing and will be moderated by the same instructors. The four hour seminar include the following topics:
  • Emergency communications
  • Personal safety gear
  • Man overboard
  • Search and Rescue procedures
  • Incremental topic(s) that meets the needs of the race conditions - reduced visibility, large vessel traffic, heavy weather, breaking seas
