Missions Update for December 2013

Go into the world with Jesus Christ

The Pastoral Staff and Board of Deacons have been focusing on how Brandywine Valley Baptist Church can help encourage our local congregation in their spiritual growth. A major part of the focus this fall has included making missions more a part of our “DNA.” Our mission at Brandywine has been to introduce people to Jesus Christ and help them follow Him.  That mission is continuing, with an increased emphasis and focus on missions.

The Board of Deacons put together a task force made up of individuals from the Pastoral Staff, the missions committee, and the Board of Deacons to look at missions. The task force reported back to the Board with their results, and we would like to share with you some of the restructuring occurring at Brandywine from those results.

The restructure proposes no significant changes to the missionaries we support. It will not affect the financial support they receive from Brandywine. The new structure simply broadens the opportunity we have to integrate missions in all that we do.

The restructuring began with our annual Short-Term Missions Sunday Reports. The Pastoral Staff requested each individual share one aspect of their trip that most impacted their spiritual life. With three services of 3-4 stories, it was a powerful morning. We challenged members of our congregation to go on a missions trip in 2014. We were thrilled to have over 90 people or families in addition to our annual student missions trips respond that they want to go on a short-term missions trip this coming year. You may view one of these services labeled Missions Sunday on our website at http://brandywineonline.org/sermon/hope-restored if you like. We also held Town Meetings on a Sunday morning to share the with the congregation the thoughts being discussed about the restructuring and to ask for feedback.

We are thrilled to announce that Curt and Karen Fitchett have volunteered to serve as our Missions Leadership Team Coordinators at Brandywine. Bob and Lynn Soplop have also volunteered to lead our focus on short-term missions.  Please join us in praying for them as well as praying God will provide us with a passionate and united team to support them.

Above all else, pray that God’s name will be glorified and people will be motivated to share their story in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth. We are thankful you are part of the family here at Brandywine and appreciate your prayers!
