SAN FRANCISCO BLACK FILM FESTIVAL SALUTES I.T. BOOKMAN COMMUNITY CENTER'S KWANZAA CELEBRATION WITH GORDON PARK'S FILM ABOUT SOLOMON NORTHUP "12 YEAR'S A SLAVE" AUTHOR  ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27TH @ 7 P.M. IT'S FREE!

"It's great to see I.T. Bookman Community Center giving the community an opportunity to compare the great work of artists like Gordon Parks with what is currently in theaters," said Kali O'Ray, Executive Director, San Francisco Black Film Festival. Parks' PBS film, "Half Slave, Half Free" about Solomon Northup and the current $20 million theatrical release, "Solomon Northup 12 Years a Slave," directed by Steve McQueen, written by John Ridley, produced by Brad Pitt and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, should provide great food for thought and inspire action."

"We're pleased that the San Francisco Black Film Festival is sharing the screening information with their supporters," said Carl Barnes, Chairman ofthe I.T. Bookman Community Center. "The second day of Kwanzaa is self-determination. Director Gordon Parks, actor Avery Brooks and definitely the subject of the film, Solomon Northup epitomize self determination.  We hope families will come out for this free event and be inspired."
