January 2014 MSP Audio Geeks Meetup

Wednesday, January 29th

January's meetup is this Wednesday, January 29th from 6:30-8:30pm at HDMG. Oliver Masciarotte will be demonstrating Sonic Studio's Amarra Symphony software and how it can improve the sound of your system by taking into account your listening environment. From their website: "Amarra Symphony with iRC is very different from standard room correction technologies that rely on simple minimum-phase EQ technology because it optimizes not only the frequency balance of your sound system but also the impulse response at the listening position; which is critical for accurate sound staging, clarity and bass reproduction."

To learn more about Oliver, check out his websites
http://www.othermunday.com/ and http://www.seneschal.net/.

Bring your stereo mixes and CDs (bonus points for acoustic instruments) to play through the system during the evening.

Invite your friends and join us for a night of audio geekery! Feel free to BYOB. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to mspaudiogeeks [at] gmail [dot] com so we can be on the lookout for you.

New SFX Library - LA Underground

Released by Rabbit Ears Audio

From the website
REA015 features a unique collection of Los Angeles ambiences from guest contributor, Charles Maynes. Charles is an accomplished Sound Designer and Recordist.

REA015 LA Underground is all about grit and the unseen. Charles describes his recent infatuation with the underbelly of Los Angeles: â€œI found myself interested in recording ambiences in really seedy/unsafe places downtown that made me think of some of my favorite LA crime dramas namely, Billy Friedkin’s Too Live and Die in LA, and Michael Mann’s films, Heat and Collateral. I found the locations for all those films to be an incredible juxtaposition of the common sunny depiction of Los Angeles which draws so many tourists… well, those tourists probably don’t go to these places….”

Introductory offer: If you purchase before 1/31 you will also receive an additional 700+ MB of sounds from Charles’ recent recording trip to San Francisco. They are just as gritty!

For more information, and to purchase the library, head to http://rabbitearsaudio.com/rea015-la-underground/.

Audio Society of Minnesota

The Audio Society of Minnesota is a non-commercial hobby organization incorporated in 1979. They present monthly meetings from September to May/June of each year, and publish a monthly ASM Bulletin during that time.

They support all audiophile interests. They have tube freaks and solid-state freaks, people who only listen to digital and people who would be happy if digital had never been invented, folks who have never seen an LP in their lives and others who have thousands, members who think nothing of making major expenditures for audio gear and others who are interested in the best bang for their buck, some with advanced degrees in engineering and some who don't know an Ohm from a Watt, those who think of their hobby as a science and those who think of it as an art. But they all have one thing in common: They love music and they love to hear it accurately and emotionally recreated in their homes.

Meetings are held at the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting:
3517 Raleigh Avenue
St. Louis Park, MN 55416
