Have you ever enjoyed knitting more than during the past month?  What a treat to be working on warm woolen projects while the winter winds made things bitterly cold.  We've loved having a hobby that keeps our loved ones wrapped up in soft projects that keep the chill at bay.

We have a Valentine's treat for those of you eager to try your hand at ombre knitting.  We've created a special Shibui kit that we think you'll want to treat yourself to this month. We also want to offer you a pattern suggestion inspired by our visit from Stephanie Dosen of Tiny Owl Knits last week.

Our exclusive trunk show of beautiful samples featuring the unbeatable combination of Swans Island yarns and Brooklyn Tweed patterns is still in the shop for a couple more weeks, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet we hope that you can make the time soon.

And our very popular Skills Clinics are continuing this month with more new workshops that are bound to teach you something new.  We hope that you can check out the selection below, and let us know as soon as possible if you are able to attend.  Our small classes fill quickly and these new teachers are not to be missed!

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Shibui Gradient Kits

As a little holiday treat for you, we created some special kits that you are going to love more than a box of chocolates!  We have fallen in love with Shibui Silk Cloud and we can't think of a better yarn to share with you as a Valentine treat.

Our passion for ombre knitting has been happily met with the Shibui Gradient pattern.  This fantastic FREE pattern has you working with three strands of their gorgeous blend of silk and mohair on US 9 needles, so any of you that dread the thought of lace weight yarn and tiny needles, never fear.

By gradually shifting colors (through transitioning the changes one strand at a time), the subtle changes perfectly compliment the feminine translucence of the this yarn.  We can split these skeins into quarters for you so that all of the counting and measuring are taken out of the equation.  You can simply knit until you run out of yarn in each bobbin.  It couldn't be easier.

And it's a true pleasure to wear.  The finished cowl is as light as a cloud and soft as down.  Our kits are $92 and our supply is limited, so give us a call to reserve your valentine treat right away.

Check out our blog for some photos of finished samples we've been enjoying in the shop!

Swans Island and Brooklyn Tweed

Our trunk show featuring the beautiful yarns of Swans Island and the delightful patterns of the Brooklyn Tweed Wool People Vol. 6 Collection is still on display in the shop.  We hope that you can visit in the next couple of weeks while we are featuring these beautiful samples created by knitters along the Front Range.

Shown above is Gentian, a terrific cabled hat designed by Irina Dmitrieva that can be knit up with a single skein of Swans Island Pure Blends Worsted which retails at $33.75 a skein. Kris chose the un-dyed creamy winter white color.  Because of the minimal processing that is involved in the creation of this yarn, it is among the softest that Swans Island offers.  You'll want to feel how comfortable this hat is.  And, take a closer look at the thoughtful decreases.  The top of this hat is stunning!

We have many other samples to show you, including a few that we haven't shared online, so you'll want to pop in the shop so as not to miss anything.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Imperial Yarn & the Olympics

You have read about our love for Imperial Stock Ranch yarns, and seen the stunning samples we've featured in the shop.  These yarns come from a family owned and operated ranch located on more than 30,000 acres of Oregon’s beautiful high desert where you’ll find resident populations of elk, deer, antelope, game birds and fish. A quick visit to the company’s website will provide you with more information about the Ranch, as well as the valuable conservation work they are doing to preserve the habitat that has been in their family for generations.

The yarn world is abuzz about Imperial Stock Ranch these days as the US Olympic Team will soon be modeling the Ralph Lauren designed team sweaters that were created using Imperial Stock Ranch Yarn.  More about the amazing story of the team sweaters can be seen on a video here.

As you start planning your Olympic viewing, and imagining what you'd like to knit while in front of the screen cheering on your favorite athletes; we wanted to be sure that you remembered that we stock four yarns from Imperial: Columbia, Erin, Anna, and their Bulky 2 Strand Roving.  Each has its own rustic charm, and having all four to choose from provides a fun selection of different fibers and weights to play with.

There is still time to plan a project, and stop in for the perfect yarn.  Let us help you find a winning combination, and a color that you will enjoy as much as red, white, or blue.

Tiny Owl Knits Valentine Project

A big thank you to Stephanie Dosen of Tiny Owl Knits who came to the shop last week and charmed us with her fun personality, wonderful patterns, and inspiring samples.

She brought a few little Heartfelt Rings, as seen above, which reminded us that they could make a perfect stash-busting little holiday treat for your Valentine(s).

These felted ♥ rings are super quick & easy to make!  The hearts are added using duplicate stitch pre-felting.  You could even add your sweetie’s initial to the back!

Plus, there are videos available on the Ravelry page so that you can create a ring right along with Stephanie.  How much fun would that be?
