Leigh Coastal Walks

Anzac Weekend 2014

Little Barrier

Access is strictly by DoC permit and limited to 20 visitors. Landing is on slippery boulders. Walk is uphill through native forest where there is good birdlife plus tuatara and giant weta. 

Whangateau Harbour Walk

An easy walk across the sandflats at low tide. Visit Horseshoe and Sand Islands. See crabs, cockles, horn shells, hermit crabs, neptunes necklace, mangroves trees, salt marsh plants, and much more.

Mt Tamahunga

This is a strenuous walk from Rodney Road to Mt Tamahunga return. It travels through native bush and offers spectacular views over Omaha Bay from the summit.

Goat Island to Pink Beach

Walk from Goat Island Beach over boulders to Pink Beach. On your return explore the rock pools of Echinoderm Reef with marine experts and finish with a visit to the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre. 

Cape Rodney

Walk around Leigh Harbour and up to view the spectacular private farm at Cape Rodney. Return via a native bush walk to a stream and waterfall. Return via a native bush walk to a stream and waterfall. 

Leigh Coast

Walk alongside the Leigh Coast and enjoy the beautiful seaviews. The track has some steep steps but is mostly easy. It passes through native bush and across streams.

Goat Island Walkway

This well-formed coastal walkway from the Marine Discovery Centre, has outstanding views over Goat Island and islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The track passes through native bush then crosses farmland to the start. 
 

Mathesons Bay
Family Walk

Enjoy the boardwalk up through the native bush. Take a look at the rocks for fossils near the beach and see what interesting things you can find in the rocky pools. Suitable for the whole family.

Fire Brigade Open Day

Saturday
26th April 2014
Fire brigade members will be holding an open day during the afternoon followed by a BBQ at the Leigh Fire Station.
