Friends of Midtown organizes a monthly Local Lunch to highlight a Midtown eatery and encourage support of local business. Our last event, at Cafe 1500, even received some media coverage. Next, we're meeting at Nellie's Southern Style Cafe. Come out for a great evening of food and fellowship with your neighbors in this annual combination of business and pleasure. For your pleasure, we'll have free appetizers, a cash bar, a door prize, and an icebreaker game. On the business end, we'll summarize 2013 accomplishments, discuss plans for 2014, and present the Midtown Person of 2013 award. You don't have to be a member to attend, but you're welcome to join once you're there. Bring a friend or two and meet some new ones.

Broad Street Market Task Force Formed
Mayor Eric Papenfuse has announced the formation of a seven-person task force to advise him on the future of the Broad Street Market. Several news outlets have reported on the announcement, but ABC 27 appears to have the most thorough report as of now. Friends of Midtown has representation on the task force, so send us your ideas to improve the market.

Little Free Library at Broad Street Market
Speaking of the Broad Street Market, have you noticed the former Patriot-News newspaper box that's been transformed into a Little Free Library? It's in the stone building fronting Third Street. Stop by to share some books with others or to borrow one for yourself. Thanks to Harrisburg Patriot-News and PA Media Group for donating the box.
