GaMEP Impact in 2013

Over the past 12 months, the GaMEP has launched numerous initiatives with the support of our customers. Here is a quick list of new programs from 2013:
  • 8 Innovation Management Workshops across the state - over 230 attendees
  • 7 Manufacturing Growth Networking Meetings in Douglas, Savannah, and Lawrenceville, Ga. - 150 attendees from 52 manufacturing companies
  • Lean Customer Discovery Workshop - 6 sessions to help manufacturers discover new customer/product fit(s) for their company
  • Launch of the East Metro Lean Consortium group (now 9 active Consortiums across the state)
  • Plant Manager Roundtable in West Georgia (monthly meetings)
  • Lean-Safe service - helping manufacturers integrate lean and safety efforts
  • Launched a pilot TWI (Training Within Industry) program in Augusta, Ga.
  • Six Sigma training series in Central Georgia

IEnMP Accreditation

Led by Bill Meffert, group manager for GaMEP's sustainability and energy team, Georgia Tech has recently achieved accreditation for IEnMP (Institute for Energy Management Professionals). Our team not only led the effort for the Department of Energy, but are now able to continue to lead the effort for training and auditing for DOE's Superior Energy Performance program. Read the accreditation letter.

Services around implementing energy management systems are available for all size manufacturers. If you are a company where energy is a large part of your operating cost, we are available to assess your situation and provide immediate, actionable tasks that will effect change on your bottom line. Turning Company Ideas into Reality

Did you know that Georgia Tech offers a program for manufacturing companies that allows senior design students to research problems, create prototypes, and offer solutions? By participating in the Georgia Tech Capstone program, your company will:
  • Interact with senior undergraduate engineering students for potential recruitment
  • Broaden your firm’s innovation horizon for new products and processes
  • Advance your product design or solve your manufacturing challenge

New Georgia Tech Office in Rome, Ga.

Georgia Tech Reopens Northwest Regional Office in Rome to serve the 15-county Northwest Georgia area. Read the press release for more information.

Masters of Innovation Award

On November 6, 2013, Featherbone Communiversity, a collaborative learning community in Northeast Georgia held its’ fourth annual “Entrepreneurs………Masters of Innovation”. The award is presented to entrepreneurs who demonstrate unique abilities to innovate in their businesses.  Congratulations to Noah McNealy of Slingshot Product Development Group, who was one of the nominees for this prestigious award. Slingshot, a client of the GaMEP, has developed products for numerous Fortune 100 companies and startups. McNealy, one of three founders of Slingshot, has been a client of the GaMEP for four years.

ISO Standard is Changing

Is your company registered to ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001? If so, changes to both standards are coming in 2014. To help you prepare for and understand the changes, we will be offering a 1-day course in AtlantaCourse date options are March 25 or May 7. Course price is $195. Registration is not open yet, but we are starting a "reserve your seat" list. To reserve your seat, email Katie Takacs with your name, company name, and selected course date. Once registration is open, Katie will contact you with how to officially register.
