New Year, New Open Doors
Coming Alongside our Elders

Since moving to Thies three years ago, our desire has been to serve within the context of the local church.  The challenge has been that we want to work behind the scenes, training leaders, and not taking their place by preaching and leading upfront.  Dan has preached a couple of times, but has been reticent to commit to regularly teaching adult Sunday School, since this needs to be done by the elders.

A few weeks ago, the elders of our church invited Dan to join them for their weekly prayer meeting.  Imagine Dan's delight when they asked him to come weekly with theology lessons for them to go through as a group.  This is exactly what we've been praying for as a family and as a Crossworld team.  Praise the Lord for this open door to further invest into the lives of leaders in Senegal.

We're Those Ugly Sticks
Supporting from the Background

In Senegal, a house can be under construction for years.  A family will save little by little, brick by brick, to build their home.  When the work progresses to the point where it's time to put the roof on, the builder sets up rustic wooden beams alongside the house to support the final stages of the building process.  Once the roof is stable and strong, he throws those ugly sticks into his donkey cart for them to be used in another building.

Dan likens his ministry to pastors to those ugly sticks.  They're the house.  They're the important focal point.  He's just like the ugly sticks that help the house get to the place it needs to be.  So, thank you for making it possible for us to come alongside pastors in building the church of Christ in Senegal by being ugly sticks for Jesus!
