March for Life 2014

Today, January 22nd, commemorates the 41st anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court ruling, Roe vs. Wade, a tragic event which legalized abortion in our country, changed the meaning of women's healthcare, and paved the way for the loss of more than 57-million innocent lives and counting. Pro-life supporters from the Chicago area participated in peaceful demonstrations this past weekend and today in Washington, D.C. — coming together to remember the innocent children who have tragically lost their lives, to pray for the healing of the women and men affected by abortion and to stand up for a society dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable human life.

Hundreds of thousands gathered today in the nation's capital despite continued snowstorms and bitter cold. "We may be freezing, but we are freezing for the best cause in the world," Patrick Kelly, chairman of the march, said to loud applause in his opening address this morning. Heather's House residential assistant Monica sent us a message via text, "It means so much to us to be here. It is cold, but who cares! Smiles everywhere!" Brittney Campbell, an Aid for Women client, also had the opportunity to address the crowd and share her experience of going to Aid for Women. "I felt that I was in way over my head. I was entirely on my own,” Campbell told the crowd, “I decided that my only option was to have an abortion.” She recalled how she happened upon Aid for Women on the internet, while searching for abortion clinics. Brittney received ongoing support and mentoring from Aid for Women during and beyond her pregnancy. “I am thankful for my twins, Olivia and Amelia, and thankful that they're not another statistic that represents a life lost to abortion,” Campbell shared.
