Class President reviews inaugural circuit
The Gazprom Swan 60 Class President Mr Vladimir Liubomirov reviews 2013 and looks ahead to 2014 and the future of the one-design Class.
“2013 has been a very positive year, rich with high quality races and regattas for the Gazprom Swan 60 Class. This is the year which proved the newly established Class to be dynamic, competitive, exciting—and let’s not forget fun. The teams who have come together to race in the Class this year have been fantastic. We have seen a number of world-renowned professional sailors race alongside up-and-coming youth sailors, creating a great diversity within the Class and really illustrating the unique opportunities this Class and racing circuit offer.
The racing itself brought us the first Gazprom Swan 60 World Championship, in Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK. Sailing in such a location was a terrific experience, it really is magnificent to sail in Cowes, and I am sure you all agree. With each event and each new circuit we hope to welcome new members to the Class and to really grow the Swan 60 family; after all this is about more than competing—we are creating a community who share the same passions and ambitions.
As we look to the future, we aspire to see twenty Swan 60 yachts out on the water by 2018— the class is growing and we believe it is going to be a very successful one-design class. As the Class President I would like to pay a special thank you to all of the hosting yacht clubs; to the owners for being so active, to the teams for doing such a magnificent job and for all those who have helped the class to emerge and grow into the recognised class it is today.â€
