A brief update on the REACH Gaza Project from Cycling4Gaza's Lead Organiser, Zara Hannoun
The REACH Gaza, Reaching Every Affected Child in Gaza, project was launched in October 2013 just after 39 cyclists completed the 5th annual cycling challenge that was held in Germany. Over 400 km were covered in an epic journey from Hamburg to Berlin, ending the cycle in front of the Brandenburg Tor, signifying the European example of unity and peace. The cycle helped raise $230,000 which was directly used to support the REACH Gaza project.
To date, 6 volunteer medical mission teams from all over the world have entered Gaza to preform surgeries on children in need of vital medical care. The surgeries performed ranged from paediatric cardiology to urology to orthopaedics. In total, 89 children have been taken care of and hundreds more will be cared for over the next few months.
