10 New Board Members Join Parliament 

The Board of Trustees of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions is announcing the election of ten new trustees. Ushering a new era for the Parliament, this year’s board comprises 19 denominations of 11 global religious, faith, and spiritual traditions, constituting a more robust 27-member body.

News is spreading about the elections of returning trustee emeriti (who have served in the past and chosen to return), including Dr. Kusumita Pederson who is currently co-chair of the Interfaith Center of New York, Andras Corban Arthen, founding and spiritual director of the EarthSpirit community, and Swami Varadananda of the Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago, who was among the three incorporating trustees of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions.

The seven brand new trustees on the Parliament Board are teeming with expertise, a group comprised of both elders of and dynamic up-and-comers in the Interfaith movement. These trustees are experienced leaders of religion, business, and scholarship. Read more...

Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid Re-Elected Chair 

Michael Balinsky and Lewis Cardinal Elected Vice-Chairs


With a new year comes a new Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions. 2014 will be guided by Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid who has been re-elected to serve as Chair, and will work alongside Vice-Chair Rabbi Michael Balinsky of Chicago, and the first Vice-Chair from Indigenous Communities, Lewis Cardinal of Canada.

Re-elected Board Chair, Abdul Malik Mujahid, a leading imam in Chicago’s Muslim community, begins the year feeling honored by the Parliament, which he says is “moving from strength to strength.”

With goals to continue building the organization, Imam Mujahid also reflects, “as the interfaith movement has doubled in the last ten years, it is time that the interfaith organizations build their capacity to serve the interfaith movement better for a greater world of peaceful coexistence with all the God’s creation." With Rabbi Michael Balinsky and communications executive Lewis Cardinal of Canada serving as Vice-Chairs, the Parliament board will be nourished by a talented interfaith collaboration. Parliament Observing World Interfaith Harmony Week

The Parliament of the World's Religions, an official member NGO of the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN-DPI), will observe World Interfaith Harmony Week, the official United Nations week held annually over February 1 - 7.
