Thanks MI Community & Friends for a Great 2013 Season!

On November 24, 2013, The Mercer Island Farmers Market wrapped up its most successful season with its annual Harvest Market.  The record attendance and vendor sales were the cherry on top as Mercer Islanders came out to shop locally for Thanksgiving and the holidays. Other 2013 highlights included:
  • Launching the “Friend of the Market" program at our first annual Oktoberfest celebration at the Mercer Island Beach Club. Over 100 guests celebrated and donated to keep MIFM thriving.
  • Introducing new products in 2013 including mushrooms, eggs, rabbit, duck, pie, and gluten free quinoa bowls.
  • Our wonderful volunteers including Judy Witmer's Children’s Table, VOICE, NCL and Master Gardeners who continued to enrich the market.
  • Caspar Babypants who brought hundreds of children and their parents to sing and dance with one of the best children's entertainers in the area.
  • Tastings that took a new direction this year.  We sampled fully prepared foods from the market such as Patty Pan's quesadillas. See Healthy Foods/Healthy Families column.
  • Attendance rising to about 45,000, over 18 markets, a record for MIFM.  (Now, if we could just get the Seahawks to play on Monday in September and October!)          
 




MERCER ISLAND FARMERS MARKET AWARDED "BUSINESS OF THE  YEAR"

Patty Spahr, MIFM Market Manager (l) and Kari Fisher, 2013 MIFM Board President (r) received a plaque from the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce acknowledging that MIFM creates a positive business climate in the Mercer Island town center.  Market days are time to meet friends and neighbors, have lunch, shop the market and MI businesses.
