8) Attention: PEI Women Artists
Call for Submissions - International Women’s Day Show!
March 8th is International Women's Day (IWD), a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. One hundred and fifty years after women had no place at the Charlottetown Conference table, we envision IWD 2014 as an opportunity for Islanders and visitors to put women and women’s human rights in the spotlight, to highlight diversity of perspectives and voices.
To celebrate the 102th International Women’s Day, this exhibition will feature small gems of work created by PEI women artists, valued at $150 (or less). Organizations, governments, and individuals will be able to tangibly mark IWD’s roots in the labour movement by purchasing a piece and putting a little cash in the artist’s pocket during the lean months of March. Canadian artists typically live well below the poverty line, with female artists earning on average, 28% less than their male counterparts.
PEI women artists are invited to submit an artwork, exploring the idea of women’s reality. A variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, textile, and printmaking is welcome.
Criteria:
- Open to PEI women artists
- Work must be of professional quality
- Work must be ready to hang or display
- Work must be valued at $150 or less
Work can be dropped off at the Guild Gallery, Richmond Street, Charlottetown, on Wednesday, March 5 from 12 – 4 pm. For more information email: skowalik@pei.sympatico.ca.
The exhibition will run from March 7 – 15, with an opening reception on Friday, March 7, 7-9 pm. All are welcome to attend.

10) Call for Applications
Francais
January 2, 2014
The 2014-2015 Call for Applications is now open for eligible organizations interested in applying for funding for community-based projects under the Aboriginal Women’s Programming Elements of the Aboriginal Peoples’ Program at the Department of Canadian Heritage.
The Aboriginal Women’s Programming Elements supports community-based projects that demonstrate the ability to achieve tangible results with strong community participation. This Program enables Aboriginal women to participate in projects that focus on any of the following three programming elements:
- Women’s Community Initiative – Projects that address issues affecting Aboriginal women and their families, and that contribute to strengthening their cultural identity and traditions.
- Family Violence Initiative – Community-based culturally appropriate approaches to addressing the issue of family and violence within Aboriginal families.
- Women’s Self Government Participation Initiative – Aboriginal women’s participation in self-government design and advancement.
Priority will be given to the Women’s Community Initiative and Women’s Self-Government Participation Initiative sub-components. Priority is also given to projects with an emphasis on support for the retention of language and culture, and which demonstrate the ability to achieve tangible results with strong community participation.
Please note that funding is limited, and that not every eligible project will receive funding. It is also possible that an approved funding application may receive a lower amount than what was requested. According to the Treasury Board of Canada Directives on Transfer Payment Policy, the Program should provide the minimum level of support required to achieve the expected results. Funding decisions are made through a competitive and merit-based process. There are no specific allocations for individual groups.
If your organization is eligible and interested in applying for an Aboriginal Women’s Program project, please visit our website at: http://www.pch.gc.ca/eng/1288015506563/1306434862137. If you have any questions regarding the enclosed documents you can contact Lizanne Thorne, Regional Program Manager at: lizanne.thorne@pch.gc.ca or leave a clear and detailed message at: 902-566-7154. Please note that the required application forms are not available on the website.
Eligible applications must be postmarked no later than February 13th, 2014 and sent to: Canadian Heritage, 191 University Avenue, Charlottetown, PE C1A 4L2. Applications postmarked after that date will not be considered.
