Tech News February 2014
From the Managing Director, Graeme Moore

It has been a very busy start to 2014 for Chiptech, as it has been for New Zealand providers of personal response systems and the latest MSD tendering process.
We are all getting to grips with the new telecommunications technology options, while trying to plan and implement what is going to work best for our end users – giving them (and us) peace of mind, while maintaining an easy to manage and profitable business model.
Chiptech has begun looking at how we can use our skills in understanding the technology to make life easier for yourselves while you manage your customer relationships. To this end we are proposing to make use of the options the new technology facilitates, and have begun to promote the idea of managing your systems for you. There will be other possibilities as well, which we hope to develop with you to ensure equipment is in the right place at the right time, in the optimal condition, with scheduled visits required to keep everything ticking over. All this is designed to improve the bottom line by reducing unnecessary interventions with the equipment.
After many years we are finally beginning to see some movement in Telehealth and Telecare and this year will see the first commercial applications for Chiptech solutions underway. Watch this space.
In our continued drive to produce great products, we have more collaboration underway to produce technology to assist new services in the coming years.

This all adds up to a very exciting start to 2014. We wish you all the best for this year and look forward to our contact with you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us or drop in to visit if you can.

SID - Interface Device

The SID - Interface Device is used in a number of Telecare applications, including as a door contact, and enables connection with third party ancillary products such as the Emfit epilepsy sensor. Chiptech has field trials for the SID product range occurring through the month of March. If you are interested in participating in this project, or would like a demonstration on how this range of products can support people to live independently and safely in their own homes, please contact Jonathan

Recycling medical alarms in New Zealand

At the end of last year there had been over a hundred alarms recycled, rather than taken to landfill. We want to congratulate our customers on their efforts!

RCN e-Cycle Group will recycle your old medical alarm for $1.50 + GST.  They have 60 sites across New Zealand where they will break your medical alarm down by hand into base components and either recycle locally or send to ISO accredited recycling plants overseas, diverting at least 95% by weight from landfill.  RCN aims for zero waste to landfill and reduces the carbon footprint by processing as much as they can within New Zealand.
Please contact Leonie if you want more information.

DEVICE LOCKOUT

All Chiptech medical alarms feature an operation called 'device lockout'. When a personal help button is pressed and the alert received by the base unit, the device is then locked out from sending more activations through the base unit to the monitoring center for a five minute period of time. This is a safety feature so the monitoring center can call back into the unit without the phone line being tied up by multiple activations from a single personal help button. If the HELP button on the base unit is pressed, or an additional personal help button, this will send out an additional activation, and then this device will be locked out from sending another activation for the five minute period.

Chiptech Wizard Update 1.15

The Chiptech Wizard has been updated to work with the ERICA GSM and the Advanced Telecare products. You will find this update available to download on the customer web portal. To perform data connections to the ERICA GSM units in the field you will need an ERICA GSM router. Please contact Chiptech and we can supply the necessary firmware. There is also an accompanying Chiptech Wizard Outline document available on the web portal that outlines all the functions available via the Wizard for direct and remote connections to Chiptech medical alarms.

Pearl Plastic Update

We have received the new Pearl plastic (p2) from the manufacturer and are carrying out a broad range of tests to compare its performance to the existing Pearl and Standard Pendant plastic. Results and samples will be available shortly.
