The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 until noon, Thursday, Feb 13. The impacts of this system could be worse than what we saw during last month’s snow event because of anticipated significant icing.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 11, will be a normal workday for both the university and medical center. Georgia Regents officials are continuously monitoring the developing weather situation and will keep you informed of any operational changes or closures. Should the weather deteriorate during the day, we will make decisions about university classes scheduled for Tuesday evening by 2 p.m.

The university and health system websites (gru.edu/grhealth.org) and social media channels, as well as local media will be updated regularly.

Ice on trees and power lines, combined with winds of 10 to 15 MPH could create numerous power outages. The National Weather Service is recommending that citizens be prepared to be without power from 1 to 2 days in some locations.  While roads will be treated, we could have as much as ½" to ¾" of ice accumulated, making driving dangerous. The GRU Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response recommends the following links about how to be best prepared at home during a weather emergency of this type:
