Welcome!


In this edition, we are pleased to announce the launch of some exciting new projects and innovative system developments, including our continued expansion into new territories and markets.

Our success story continues with the first system orders from Asia and South America, which are important strategic locations for our continued growth. Closer to home, we are about to deliver our first fully-automated UHV cluster tool (the first of two on order) to Aarhus University, which provides expanding capabilities to meet the ever increasing demands of research.

Further developments in high-precision e-Beam heater technology, along with the latest release of our CryoSoft Windows platform, completes the topics for this newsletter which I hope you find informative.

New! Cryofox Cluster Tool



Meet the latest addition to the Cryofox family of high performance systems! The Cryofox Cluster Tool is a true UHV, fully automated radial distribution centre that provides expanding capabilities to connect multiple processes and applications.

With a totally unique 3-axis robot at the heart of the system, it offers 2x the travel distance for the same size chamber and 10x more rigidity than conventional units on the market. This coupled with quicker pump down time and a smaller system footprint, makes the Cryofox Cluster Tool an unbeatable choice.

First Dual-Source System Destined for Brasil


With the continued emergence of the BRIC nations who hold significant strategic importance for the expansion of our business, we were delighted to secure the first ever 'dual-source' system order in Brasil.

The Cryofox Explorer 600 LT Flex deposition system, is a versatile research tool with split-chamber configuration, that avoids oxidation of source material and optimisation of throughput since the process chamber is not vented between batches. It is equipped with 4 pocket e-Beam sources and 2 x 2” sputtering magnetrons for DC and RF sputtering.

Destined for the Federal University in Campina Grande, where it will be used as a research tool for the deposition of nanometer thin metal and semiconductor films on various substrates, it
will prove to be a flexible asset as it will be used by several research groups.

High Temperature Uniformity for Photovoltaic Research


Inadequacies in substandard heater technologies can cause inherent problems with wafer temperature uniformity resulting in process non uniformity and wafer stress. Polyteknik AS have developed a range of high-precision IR heater concept which offer unrivaled performance of +/-10oC up to a maximum of 500oC on 150mm x 150mm substrates.

During testing, thermocouples were attached directly to the three red spot positions marked, with a heating process involving four steps of 30min intervals as shown, and the temperature measured continuously under vacuum conditions. The heating arrangement was accompanied with active cooling on the system, capable of cooling the sample to 60°C within one hour in a nitrogen atmosphere.

Tornado Hits Hong Kong!
 

Our first venture into the Asian market was with the successful sale of the Cryofox Tornado 300 - a compact, low-cost, thin film deposition system equipped with 2 x 3” sputtering magnetrons and a water cooled substrate holder with future-proof upgrade capabilities. The system was recently installed at the City University of Hong Kong, Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, and will be used for MEMS and novel sensor fabrication.

Billy Yan of Dymek, Polyteknik's exclusive representative for Hong Kong and China, goes on to say "the thin film deposition market is very competitive but we were successful due to the impressive support from Polyteknik who were able to satisfy our customer's requirements on performance, quality and reliability. Indeed, the system is currently exceeding expectation and we anticipate several more orders in the future".

CryoSoft 3 Released!


Polyteknik AS are committed to a process of continual improvement and are pleased to announce the launch of CryoSoft 3.  The latest release provides an easy recipe set-up with save and load functions, password protected multi-user levels with simple data logging of all process parameters, and remote access for both users and service.

In addition, full automatic process control is available which is complimented by a comprehensive material database for e-Beam systems, giving users exceptional flexibility with ease-of-use.
