Scotland becomes the 17th country to legalise same-sex marriage

Scotland votes for equal marriage

Dear <<First Name>>,

Scotland just legalised same-sex marriage!

In an overwhelming vote of 105 to 18 the Scottish Parliament just passed the equal marriage bill into law, making Scotland the 17th country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage!

Click to watch a message from the Scottish Government welcoming the vote:

We are also pleased to say that all of the negative amendments to the bill were rejected, meaning Scotland can proudly say that it has one of the most progressive equal marriage laws in the world.

Today will be remembered as a significant milestone in Scottish history for LGBT people. Not only will same-sex couples soon be able to marry, but our politicians have just removed the last major piece of sexual orientation discrimination from Scots law.

After many years of campaigning for equal marriage we are going to spend tonight celebrating - and you're welcome to join us: www.equality-network.org/celebration

If you can't join us in person you can still help spread the good news:
  • Click to send a THANK YOU message to those MSPs that voted in favour:
  • Let us know what the vote means to you with a Tweet, or leave a message on our Facebook wall

It goes without saying that our work for equality is far from over - there is still much to do to tackle the barriers, prejudice and discrimination that LGBT people continue to face.

But tonight we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Equal Marriage campaign over the past six years, and everyone who has supported the Equality Network over the past 17 years!

Yours for equality,
