The Aerial View Newsletter

Maiden Voyage

It's me, Chris T. It's only taken me twenty-five years to get around to this... an Aerial View newsletter that will keep you updated and informed about the stuff that happened - and will happen - on WFMU's first regularly-scheduled phone in talkshow. You're getting this e-mail because you listen to Aerial View on WFMU. But please feel free to unsubscribe if the last thing you want or need is another message in your inbox.

Christie, not Chris T.

On Jan. 14 my guest was Mark Moran of Weird NJ fame. Mark went to high school with future NJ Gov. Chris Christie AND David Wildstein, the man who sent the infamous "Got It" text about closing down local lanes to the George Washington Bridge. Mark told a great story about designing a school election poster for Wildstein and we both wondered if he'd "flip" on the Gov., after Christie threw him under the bus. We were right. Wildstein now says Christie was well aware of the lane closings when they happened, not after, as the Gov. has repeatedly stated.

World's Unfair

Last week I interviewed author Joseph Tirella about his new book Tomorrow-Land: The 1964 - 65 World's Fair and the Transformation of America. I've been fascinated with the '64 World's Fair since I first went to Flushing Meadows Park as a teenager and began having bizarre dreams of floating through the Fair. Turns out I was there, as a toddler, being pushed around in a stroller by my Mom. Check out this group we mentioned that's trying to restore the New York State Pavillion, People For The Pavillion. And this Kickstarter campaign for Modern Ruin, a forthcoming documentary about the Pavillion, seen below.

And Your Bird Can Sing

On Tuesday, February 4 I'll celebrate the 50th anniversary of the arrival of The Beatles in the U.S. with BEATLES KARAOKE, live on the air. Call 201-209-WFMU and sing to one of my specially-prepared backing tracks. Here's the Whole Lotta Led Zeppelin Karaoke episode, for reference. And remember, I'll SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY!
