Lesson 143: Strengthened With His Power, Part 2
We are alive to God: united with Christ, who is at work in us, with His infinite strength.
Psa.68:35 the God of Israel - he is the one who gives power and strength to his people
Psa.84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you
Psa.105:4 Seek the Lord and his strength
Satan will come again to discourage you, saying “You will never beat that sin.” He is the master of half-truth. He’s right – I never will overcome my sin.
But believers are alive to God. By counting this as a fact, we will have the strength.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones wrote that this removes our hopelessness, “I am no longer under the dominion of sin, but I am under the dominion of another power that nothing can defeat.”
“We must form the habit of continually realizing that we are dead to sin and alive to God.”
We resist sin and temptation 3 ways: by faith, by God’s Word, and by looking to Christ. Faith must always be based on fact; Romans 6:11 is a fact.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
