CCTV Broadcast Schedule

 SCC programs can be seen on CCTV, Comcast Cable Channel 21, for two weeks starting the Wednesday after the meeting on Wednesdays at 4pm, Thursdays at 4:30pm, Fridays at 7pm, and Saturdays at 1pm.

Dr. Jane Lubchenco, an internationally recognized marine ecologist, scientist and teacher will address Salem City Club’s Friday, February 21 luncheon meeting.  Dr. Lubchenco will discuss her work as the chief administrator at NOAA and will also cover ocean health and climate change in her remarks. 
 
President Obama nominated Lubchenco in December 2008 as part of his “Science Dream Team.”  She was the first woman to serve as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and as Administrator of NOAA.
 
Dr. Lubchenco led NOAA from 2009 to 2013.  In February 2013 she returned to teaching and research, first as the Haas Distinguished Visitor in Public Service at Stanford University, and then to Oregon State University where she had previously taught for three decades. 
 
Dr. Lubchenco has received numerous awards, including a MacArthur Fellowship, 19 honorary doctorates, and the Heinz Award for the Environment.  In 2010, the scientific journal Nature named her “Newsmaker of the Year.”  In January 2014 she received the Seattle Aquarium Medal for “leadership and lifetime accomplishments in our mission of Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment.”  She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Royal Society.
 
Educated at Colorado College, the University of Washington and Harvard University, Dr. Lubchenco is “passionate about promoting the discovery, communication and use of scientific knowledge in policy, management and public understanding.”  At OSU, she continues her busy schedule of teaching, research, writing, and speaking nationally and internationally.

February 19:  State of the City Address:  Mayor Anna Peterson, noon, Salem Conference Center.
Mayor Peterson will highlight her vision for the coming year and report on the accomplishments from the past year, particularly the results of public-private partnerships and other projects that the City funded or otherwise supported.  City Councilors will join the Mayor for this event and are looking forward to the opportunity for community dialogue.

No RSVP is necessary.  A lunch buffet is optional and opens at 11:30 a.m.  The cost is $15.00 at the door.
 

The State of the City Address is sponsored by the Salem Rotary, Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, Salem City Club and the City of Salem.  The event has been taking place annually since 1983. 


March 7:  “Win, Place, Show: Wagering on Health Care Reform."  This is the fifth program in the series, Health Care for Oregonians: Health Care Reform in the Salem Community.
