Lesson 150: Responsibility, Part 1
The Holy Spirit enables a believer to put to death our sinful corruption.
But Paul also says we are to take action in this process.
The power comes by the Spirit, but it is our responsibility:
Col.3:5 “[You] put to death what is earthly in you”.
Heb.12:1 Let us throw off the sins. Let us run the race with perseverance.
James 4:7 [You] submit yourselves to God. [You] resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
2 Pet.3:14 [You] make every effort to be found spotless. Decide with your will to do this.
The idea of making an effort to be holy may feel like our flesh working to save ourselves.
But Scripture is clear: we receive Christ by faith alone, and we seek holiness by faith alone.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
