Dear Colleagues
It seems that last month's newsletter about playing better golf by sleeping better has inspired many of you to take sleep more seriously and get more ZZZZs under your belt.
This month I am offering another good reason to sleep well - did you know that quality sleep can help to reduce weight? Lack of sleep is related to an increase in hunger and appetite, and possibly to obesity. According to some studies people who sleep less than six hours a day are almost 30 percent more likely to become obese than those who slept seven to nine hours.
Recent research has focused on the link between sleep and the hormones that regulate appetite. Ghrelin stimulates hunger and leptin signals satiety to the brain and suppresses appetite. Not only does sleep loss appear to stimulate appetite but it also stimulates cravings for high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods which contributes to the weight gain issue.
Check out the research, and reources at the end of this newsletter.

Last month I asked what was the man reason you wanted to sleep better. The best answer came from Steve Moss who said;
“The reason I would like to sleep better, is because I am passionate about being safer in work and life in general and believe this would benefit myself and those around me. I scored high in the Epworth assessment, therefore it is in the interests of everyone around me that I improve my sleep.”
