President of EBAN Visits Turkey

Paulo Andrez, hosted by EBAN Board Member Baybars Altuntas, in the context of the Turkey Entrepreneurship Summit and per invitation of the Black Sea adjacent region Giresun, visited the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem. The trip, which took place from the 6th to the 10th of January and passed by Giresun, Ordu, Trabzon, Rize and Artvin, emphasised the achievements already in place in Turkey, namely a fast-growing angel investment market and a 75% tax break deduction considered by many as the most attractive angel investment incentive in Europe. December has been a quiet month for angel investment in Western Europe, according to data from Zephyr, the M&A database published by Bureau van Dijk. After an impressive showing in November, when EUR 67 million was invested across 29 deals, both volume and value have plummeted to their lowest levels for some time this month.

«At the World Economic Forum in Davos, European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes unveiled a new startup ‘accelerator’ and think-tank to support the growing startup community in Europe. The Startup Europe Partnership is an accelerator in the loosest sense of the word, helping fledgling businesses to connect with entrepreneurs, mentors and accelerators through a yet to be unveiled online platform.
The programme has been set up to help startups expand beyond their national borders and evolve into truly global companies. With that in mind, the Startup Europe Partnership will store resources to help entrepreneurs grow into new markets and pick up new customers.»
