President of EBAN Visits Turkey
Paulo Andrez, hosted by EBAN Board Member Baybars Altuntas, in the context of the Turkey Entrepreneurship Summit and per invitation of the Black Sea adjacent region Giresun, visited the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem. The trip, which took place from the 6th to the 10th of January and passed by Giresun, Ordu, Trabzon, Rize and Artvin, emphasised the achievements already in place in Turkey, namely a fast-growing angel investment market and a 75% tax break deduction considered by many as the most attractive angel investment incentive in Europe. LBA Reports a Record £15m of Investment Year in 2013
London Business Angels (LBA) scored a record year in 2013 with £3.5m invested into 22 SMEs by its members alongside a further £11.5m of co-investment, making it one of the most active angel communities in the U.K and indeed Europe for the period. According to a recent report by UKfunders, LBA was the most prolific angel investor network of the year in the first half of 2013 and in September 2013, LBA was awarded the investor all stars private investor network of the year award.
German Startups Group: Seven Additional Investments
The German Startups Group Berlin AG, provider of venture capital for the booming startups scene in Germany with its head office in Berlin, has invested in seven additional companies within the last few months. Just one a half years after its launch, the German Startups Group has created a portfolio of 24 investments. At the same time it has extended the previous investment focus on early stage companies with established German startups (”growth stage”).
December has been a quiet month for angel investment in Western Europe, according to data from Zephyr, the M&A database published by Bureau van Dijk. After an impressive showing in November, when EUR 67 million was invested across 29 deals, both volume and value have plummeted to their lowest levels for some time this month.

The Startup Europe Partnership is an accelerator in the loosest sense of the word, helping fledgling businesses to connect with entrepreneurs, mentors and accelerators through a yet to be unveiled online platform.
The programme has been set up to help startups expand beyond their national borders and evolve into truly global companies. With that in mind, the Startup Europe Partnership will store resources to help entrepreneurs grow into new markets and pick up new customers.»
