Sunday Morning - 10:30am - Youth Worship Room - Dr. Copple shares vision of our 2015 Mission Trip to Kenya- partnering with Trevecca Nazarene University.

Jim Copple has sometimes been referred to as "the Bono of the Church of the Nazarene" because like the music star he has given his life to the transformation of lives in desperate places and situations.  Jim has been the point person in connecting the aid of government and foundations directly to the needs of humanity through the Church of the Nazarene's various resources.  Most recently, Jim has facilitated the first partnership between a United Nations entity, UNICEF, and a Christian denomination - our church! - for a special project with refugees and gender-based violence in Kenya, Africa.  This will be a weekend you simply won't forget.  It will enlarge your horizons and change your heart.

THE BIG GAME
Elementary Kids will experience The Big Game at 9:00am this Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday. They will be challenged to understand that the only way they will win at the game of life is to have Jesus in their heart, guiding them all the way. In addition they will be encouraged to make good friendships so that there will be people in their lives who will help them on the journey. Kids are encouraged to wear blue jeans and their favorite team jersey or sport shirt. As always, Pancakes and Praise begins at 8:30am. There will be prizes for those who bring a friend.

NO WORSHIP SERVICE SUNDAY EVENING-  IT'S SUPERBOWL!

GIVING UPDATE
Once again we are praising God for His faithfulness through His people.  Going into the weekend, we needed $88,000 before January 31 to close out January's budgeted need.  Thus far, we have received $54,417 towards that need in Tithe and Missions giving.  YOU STILL HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY to give ON-LINE toward January needs.  Click HERE to give easily and quickly on-line.  We continue to give and serve by faith!  God bless you all!  Pastor Ulmet

Grace is popping up all over these days!  Let me share a few places I've encountered it lately:

Sunday morning I was privileged to teach the Senior High Sunday School Class.  I faced a great group of gifted, sensitive and impressive teen-age leaders.  We discussed some of the "hard truths" of faith and life.  I listened to their hearts as they responded.  I came away optimistic about the future of our faith and our church.

A few weeks ago a baggage helper was taking our luggage from the taxi to the ship we would be boarding at the Port of New Orleans. Being the beginning of Mardi Gras season, I made a light comment about him "behaving himself" over the next few weeks!  He returned a light comment about all of the alcohol on the ship, and when I assured him I would not be imbibing in any of that, his whole countenance changed.  He said "I'm an alcoholic.  I almost lost everything, but three years ago I made a decision to change, with God's help, and I've been dry three years. My whole life has changed thanks to God."  He smiled.  I hugged him.  It was a moment of grace connection.

Finally, while in New Orleans Karen and I revisited a favorite place, Preservation Hall, one of the "holy ground" locations for jazz lovers.  As the Hall band played a usual set of jazz classics, suddenly the trombone player, a seasoned older African American gentleman stood up and said to the usually-packed house, "Now we're going to play an old hymn."  And the band began to play "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."  As the song progressed, different players would stop playing and start singing.  I looked around and observed that only about half of the crowd even knew the song, but one by one those that did joined in.   As the verses progressed more and more sang, and an unusual Spirit settled in that historic jazz space.  It was the Holy Spirit.  It was powerful and pervasive.  I smiled - Grace had visited the French Quarter.  Isn't God creative?

Friends, Grace is everywhere.  It's in us and all around us.  Pass it on!

Pastor Ulmet

You will be glad that you did!

JOB OPENING WITH NFCN
An employee is needed to serve our church with duties in set-up, custodial, and minor repairs (some lifting required) of our building and grounds on Friday nights/Saturdays (option of being a back-up on week nights if desired), in a part-time role that may work well for a college student, retiree, as supplemental employment, and is immediately available. If interested or you know someone who may be, please email DAVID WIGART or call David in the church office.

SPIRITUAL PARENTING CLASS
In Spiritual Parenting, Dr. Michelle Anthony places the dependence upon God for our child and calls the reader to a heart posture of obedience and faithfulness.  The end goal is a vibrant faith that is passed on from one generation to another.  Parents are, by the power of God’s Spirit, to obey and depend on God in order to create an environment God can use to beckon our kids to Him.  Isn’t it time to embrace this simple, but revolutionary, concept?  Parents, please join Connie Houston and Wendy Tate as they lead us through this Wednesday evening elective intended to provide parents with tools as they continue to rear their children.  This 6-week elective will begin Wednesday, January 22 from 6:00-7:30pm in Greathouse, Room 206, and the cost to cover books is $10.  Contact Sabrina Jones or call her at 615.255.1289 with questions.

LADIES BIBLE STUDIES
Wednesday, January 29 from 6:00-7:30pm, Ladies Bible Study will begin an 8-week journey through Love the Adventure with Jesus by Aletha Hinthorn.  The group will be meeting in the Reed Building, room 100 and the cost to cover books is $11.  The schedule will be as follows: 6:00-6:30, small groups;  6:30-6:45, refreshments; 6:45-7:30, DVD lesson.  Please contact Gwen Tuttle at 615.516.9094 for more information.

The Tuesday morning Women’s Bible Study will begin a new, in-depth look at the book of Joshua and would love for you to join them!  They meet from 10:00am-12:00pm in Greathouse, room 105 and there is no cost to participate.  Contact Fran Spruill at 615.519.6415 for more information.
