Girls Inc. will be presenting their Project BOLD at the Girl Powerment event held at Keyano College on February 12th, 2014. Female students from several local schools will be bussed to the college, where they will each be participating in 3 various workshops throughout the day, one of the choices being our Project BOLD! We are so excited to be a part of this event again for another year!
Women of Inspiration Education Award
Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta awards second installment of Women of Inspiration Education Award to scholarship winners.

(Fort McMurray) Each year, Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta provides programming to hundreds of girls all across the region. They work diligently to show the girls the possibilities of what they can achieve, and last year decided to show their girls ‘what they can become’. To accomplish this, the Women of Inspiration (WOI) program was born.

The WOI series, presented by Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude, recognizes twelve women each year who make the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) a great place to live, work and raise families. The goal of the series is to honour women who have contributed countless efforts to their community and have inspired other women and girls to do the same. These women truly embody the Girls Inc. mantra of Strong, Smart & Bold.

Last year, as part of the WOI series, Girls Inc. provided three $5000 education awards to three female students from the RMWB for the pursuit of post-secondary education at a recognized post-secondary institution. The amazing young women who received these scholarships were; Cassandra Larson, Ashlesha Deshpandre and Anam Rizvi. The first half of each scholarship was awarded at the beginning of their first semester, and it has now come time to award the second half for their second semester. The girls have kept in touch with Girls Inc., telling of exciting growth and experience so far, and of great hopes for the future.

Girls Inc. Golf Tournament 2014

While it seems at this time of year most people in the region have traded in their golf clubs for snow shovels, the staff at Girls Inc of Northern Alberta are already working hard to prepare for their 21st Annual Golf Tournament.

As it has in the past, the Tournament will be held at Miskanaw Golf Club located at MacDonald Island Park, and this year it will be happening on Saturday, July 12th, 2014. The event is a fun-filled day on the golf course; complete with a delicious dinner, fabulous prizes, a live auction and of course, a chance to help out a very worthy cause.

Our sponsors and volunteers have made a huge difference in thousands of girls’ lives, and this year, in order to carry out our goals to expand our programming and reach within the region, we are asking for your help.

If you work for an organization, or know of one that may be interested in sponsoring us this year, direct them our way!

Please feel free to direct any questions to the Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta office at 780-790-9236.

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude are pleased to acknowledge the amazing women who make the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo a great place to live, work and raise families.

The Women of Inspiration (WOI) Series presented by Syncrude honours women who have contributed countless efforts to their community and have inspired other women and girls to embody the Girls Inc. mantra of Strong, Smart & Bold.

Over the course of a year we showcase the stories of local women who are driving positive change for other women and girls, either directly or by example. This series will come to a close in May 2014 during Girls Rights Week, and on June 14th, 2013 Girls Inc. will host a Women of Inspiration Celebration at the Sawridge Hotel to celebrate all the nominees.

It is our hope that you will join us in this exciting project and will nominate a woman who has broken boundaries and is a leader within the RMWB.

Funding For You!

One in three Canadian families cannot afford to enroll their children in sport or recreation activities (Vision Critical 2011). That means that many kids are missing out.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart is dedicated to removing barriers, so children can participate in organized sport and recreation.
We see it as equipping kids for life, because participation in organized sport and recreation increases a child’s chance for success in life.

They discover and participate. They gain self-confidence. They develop self-esteem. They learn leadership skills. Their lives become richer.

We are now proud members of our local JumpStart committee, and would like to share with you the benefit of this program. If you have any issues enrolling your daughter in sports activities and could use some extra help, contact us today!
